Plastic Parts, Or Lack There Of...

I find it hard to find parts to do some jobs. This i:ncludes parts for simple everyday things like sliding and retaining drawers.
Seems like things are this way because our supply chains are getting more and focused on fast turnover. Retailers are wanting to have low residence time items - only -
So it's been an idea of mind to have a rapid part generation service: I thought about doing this as an instore kiosk idea for a place that relies heavily on parts distribution.
Get a 3d printer: get people to give you dimensions: then pull parts into existence in a fairly rapid response.
It sounds good. But then the problem is that it is hard to generate molds or prints rapidly: in sufficient quantity.
Injection molding is for large runs and 3d printing is for small parts - PLA and PVC mainly - as well.
One part may need a mold because printing maybe too slow and uneconomical for instore 3d printing.
It is possible that these complications are reasons why 3d printing or desktop injection molding have not become common place in retail centers.
Also, it is well regarded that most people believe that it "is?" cheaper to order bulk on Amazon. And, if so, is this the major headwind to the Maker Movement.
I'd love to hear ideas: maybe even get some input from economic development people on starting points for local supply chain initiatives.
