maybe off the rails for now. 1st street bridge isn't even completed yet! and the way Pallister is trying to save money. Who knows.. it may not even happen for a while. But I could be wrong.

Maybe it will go the way of the 8th street bridge?

The city of Brandon promised that the 8th Street bridge would be an access point for emergency vehicles when fire hall 1 was built on 19th Street North.  
You see where that has gone!

8th st bridge was the city of Brandon's problem and as per normal, they did the cheapest thing. Tear it down and not properly replace it.  
 
The 18th st bridge is MB highways and I know there is an announcement being made within the next 3-5 weeks regarding its construction.

8th street bridge is dead. Winnipeg has less than 10 bridges going over the red river connecting 750 thousand people together. Some people think that the city died or something by removing a crumbling 8th street bridge leaving 2 bridges between 18 blocks. We have emergency personal on both sides of the tracks. I have not read yet as that was all the fear mongering that people will be dying due to response times. Haven't read that in the paper yet. This city makes me laugh. Seniors struggle walking from the town centre parkade to the Prairie Oasis building yet the excuse was how are they going to walk from the manors to across the tracks to downtown now. Jesus can't walk from a parkade how the heck are they to walk over a br

Guess I cut off part of my last post. Was to say walk over a bridge. Looking at landmarkplanning.ca we are at Round 2 where the designs were presented. The preferred plan needs to be picked, Then Round 3 of sharing the plan, then detailed design, then construction period. There is still a lot of work to go through as property will need to be acquired. Once that is done we should start seeing some movement.

Yup, they got something right.  
 
Brandon taxpayers could not afford to spend upwards of $35,000,000.00 for a bridge of questionable usefulness.  
 
If another bridge (other than a Daly replacement) ever gets built (it won't), it should be west of 18th street where it would serve more people and take traffic off of the Daly Overpass.

That's never going to happen, considering there is already a 26th Street crossing and now the City is already in the planning stages of the 34th Street Crossing.

They’ve picked a preferred option that involves an East curve and a separate pedestrian/cyclist bridge that looks to be working toward a Spring 2021 start. Posted a little more at https://ebrandon.ca/buzzpost.aspx?buzz_id=361

I thought engineers were involved in this? What a horrible idea! I can't wait for the first winter when it's all covered with packed snow and all iced up. ...The first car touches the brakes because they're going too fast down the north side. Then the next one slows a little harder, then the next and the next. Four cars back cars panicked drivers are locking up, sliding out of lanes and either into the next lane or into the barriers. Christ! It's bad enough with the old straight bridge at times in the winter when drivers start getting brake happy. Stupid design to curve any roadway on a slope. These planners couldn't had made it any worse unless they plan a bloody traffic circle for Pacific avenue.

I think your worries are unwarranted. It will probably be safer than the straight one with no division that we have now.

States anticipated start date of spring 2021 so you got a few more sleeps before you see any movement there.

The bridge is happening, but it takes time. With all the new laws... new proposals are in the planning stages forever. Environmental impact assessments, community impact assessments. consultations with the community and effected parties. mandatory waiting periods between meetings after every stage of planning. nothing to do with which government is in power. most of the time, the projects that get approved by one government are probably not implemented for an election or 2 later.

Interesting to note the buildings that will be "acquired" in the chosen plan.
