Hello. One of my family members received two identical parcels with an unfamiliar address in Brandon today. He had to sign at the door to receive them and didn't realize until he got them in the house that this was not something someone in the family had ordered. I looked up the address online and it is from SBE Canada Ltd. which refurbishes cell phones. There are very mixed comments about this company online, many negative, particularly from people who have worked for them. I'm assuming these parcels are some kind of lousy publicity gimmick. My family member is a senior and of course this has been rather upsetting to him. He's not going to open them until we can get some answers. The postal carrier said he delivered a lot of these today and is also wondering what is inside. Has anyone else received one of these stupid parcels and happened to open it? They are really quite large and to think he has to deal with two of them. I have to say I think this type of advertising in today's day and age is really inappropriate. I told him he should pitch them out the back door, lol. He's never dealt with this company and didn't order anything either. They are very light and I wouldn't be surprised if they have some kind of ad inside.

It is a flip cell phone. It’s some kind of promotional product. The phone is from some company I’ve never heard of too. I plan on “return to sender” on this.

Although to some it may be "no big deal" whenever you get a parcel you have to sign for and don't know what it contains, or the company involved...it's a "big" deal.

It could be a scam and by accepting the parcel they will say that you accepted their offer and the harassing phone calls demanding money will start. Return to sender if you can. Take a picture of the mailing label as well for your records.  
 
Have a talk with your family member about what to do if calls start over this product. Tell them in no way to send anyone money and to tell anyone that is trying to scam them that they will be contacting the police. That should quickly stop any calls.

If you or your family member has an old wireless device that operates on a CDMA tower with Bell MTS, they are currently sending out replacement devices as the CDMA towers are all being turned down as of April 30, 2019. Open the box and read the document inside and then take the device to your local store to activate it and have your device switched over so that they can continue with their wireless service.

Ok, I've been told by a family member who did research that it's not a scam but the above is true. Bell MTS is doing this.

From my family member:  
-Free replacement setup to work on new network  
-Anyone with a old analog cell phone will be receiving these packages so they can replace their current old analog flip phone  
-in less than 2 months they will stop working, not even to call 911  
-Manitoba is last province to shut down the network, already shut down in Wpg.  
-Instructions are in the box as to how to activate the new phone  
-People were notified by letter over a year ago but it has taken a while to implement.
