Perhaps there is a plant or a safe alternative that would repel the turkeys ? Maybe an owl statue or a plant the omits a smell that they don’t care for ?

There’s nothing you can do. It’s called nature. We live in the country and every year the Canada geese think that our yard also belongs to them. They chase me poop all over drop feathers....... I gotten used to it.

We’ve had all ten in our yard, roosting in our trees overnight. Bird feeder attracted them. We also get deer and rabbits so we have a variety of poop in our yard. LOL

There are more than 10, more like over 20. 2 winters ago, the province trapped a bunch but unfortunately left 1 male and a few females so the herd has grown again. They are a safety hazard as they won't budge when they are in the middle of the road. Not really sure they are  
'protected' as they did not originate in Manitoba. It should be interesting once the new school in the south end is up and running and the turkeys start chasing the little kids - not so 'cute' then.

There is at least 3 flocks in the south end with over ten in each flock, time to relocate some again!

They might be protected inside city limits,but outside city limits you can hunt them in the spring and in the fall

They are not protected. I've spoken to city Animal Control and they have been told not to touch them by Provincial Wildlife. I've spoken to Provincial Wildlife and they are "keeping an eye on the situation" - which means they are doing nothing about it.

Safety Concern, seriously. I fear the day the south end gets over run by the exploding rabbit population. Rabbits running every where, blocking traffic. Man, when that new school gets built, it's just a matter of time before some little kid gets chased by a rabbit and then somebody gets hurt. Animal Control will have some explaining to do.

I'm going to assume they are considered "protected" in city limits so as to prevent people from hunting unpredictable fowl willy nilly in populated residential and commercial areas.  
 
I get that this is considered "Duh!" to most hunters. But I've seen how people drive.

so I googled to see what scared turkeys away. Since the birds lose their fear of humans one thing you can use is an umbrella, they are supposed to be frighten when you open the umbrella. There is 'bird-scare- reflective tape, it's silver with prisms, that you can hang. Scarecrows especially one that moves with the wind is supposed to work too.  
 
As someone mentioned previously take bird feeders down and clean up any seed. Trim trees so the turks can't roost.  
 
A barking dog on a leash but don't let the dog harm the birds.  
 
Never seen anything about a smell that might repel turkeys but do you think putting roasted turkey out would do the trick? lol

was about the turkeys, but has anyone made any complaints about the rabbits in the city. I am almost at the point of complaint as every night there are easily 4-6 in my front yard near Vincent Massey School. They bed down under the cedar hedges and well...breed like rabbits! Today I wrapped the trunk of my young trees as they are starting to strip the bark from them. They need to be brought under control before a skunk wanders down the tracks and brings some rabies for all the urban rabbits to spread to family pets.

Yes i have called to complain about the rabbits. They dig in my yard and then lay in the dirt. Very annoying. I've had to chase them away numerous times.

I’ve had enough of them as well. The people at west end cc gardens don’t plant them for the rabbits n deer to eat.  
 
Also start enforcing the no feeding wildlife laws....

On the news it talked about 3 turkeys around an apartment building and how cute they are and don’t do any harm or bother anyone.  
 
Wonder how they will feel when 3 turns into 30.  
 
It was mentioned it is mating season right now.

I can't think of a Canadian town or city that doesn't have rabbits. Rabbits mostly eat dandelions. I have no issue with that.  
 
Turkey relocation does work. They just multiply due to the lack of predators. I don't mind having turkeys living near my house either. They eat the insects.  
 
If they make a mess I just take a shovel and put it in the garbage bin. That might amount to 5 minutes of work per year.

but I am also glad that my fence keeps them out of my yard especially in the gardening months. I don't think I could stand turkeys in my yard.  
 
I can understand people getting annoyed with the wildlife destroying their flower and vegetable gardens! Gardens are more than five minutes of work per year, for most looking after your garden is a daily chore so I do sympathize

if the turkeys bother you call and complain!! Won't be too happy if they come to roost here!

They’re just trying to survive, like everything else.

The above three points are paramount in my complaints about turkeys invading residential areas in Brandon. The City and Wildlife Services seem to feel we are simply annoyed by the nuisance they cause.  
 
These turkeys poop on our driveways. Their excrement freezes and remains throughout the winter. Shovelling does not work to rid the paths to our homes.  
 
These turkeys have become so tame that they can prevent people from getting into their cars! This happened to us. Asking a turkey politely to move out of one’s way does not work.  
 
Finally, turkeys can fly. Personal experience confirmed this fact. A tom turkey decided to sit on our fence. We yelled and waved our arms at him. He tucked his head under his wing, settled in and refused to leave.  
 
Turkeys have flown onto our fences to an enclosed yard. Children and pets are not safe.  
 
Turkeys can be mean and will attack.  
 
Adam’s ‘buzz’ today states that the Widlife people have not had sufficient complaints to net and move these turkeys. He mentions the issue is complaint-driven.  
 
Please people, COMPLAIN to your councillor so they can record how many of us are concerned because of the health and safety risks. This is not matter of inconvenience. It may be a novelty to some but not to those of us who live in this area.  
 
Or call the Wildlife department.

And we love them! Children throw out bread for them and never been attached once if you don’t make them threatened they won’t attack. If you approach during mating season and when they have chicks it’s just common sense really to keep clear. What about bird, rabbit, deer, human or whatever other excretement hits the earth, is the turkey doo some kind of toxic hazardous substance? Cats poo and dig in gardens and flower beds should we trap and relocate them?

I'm sure people have ran a few of them over, same goes with those bunnies. What happens then... a fine?

Seriously? C'mon Jacq, its people like you and your kids that help make this problem persist. DO NOT FEED WILD ANIMALS! For starters "people" food isn't healthy for wild animals and may cause serious health problems (especially when animals are continually fed bread, french fries, and popcorn) its not cute stop it. It also makes wild animals lose their natural fear of people. Feeding can make large, potentially dangerous animals become too comfortable in residential or recreational areas. Once animals learn they can panhandle for food, they can become a nuisance—or even worse, a safety risk. Feeding rabbits and turkeys only worsens the problem and promotes over population. If you want to feed animals with your kids go to the zoo.
