Has anyone else noticed that parking spaces are getting way smaller in Brandon? I was in the Corral Centre shopping and could very barely park between 2 vehicles. I think its because businesses want more spaces in front. Is there a standard size that a parking lot space must be?

Size of vehicles plays a huge part. My truck is over 6.5 feet wide and the average parking spot is 9 feet wide. That leave just over 1 foot to open my door till I hit the line. If I have another truck beside me they are a foot away so technically I would have 2 feet to squeeze my 2.5' butt in and out of the truck. Thus parking heavy on the passenger side.

The whole Corral Centre is a mess, parking, just trying to maneuver is so insane. Lineup on Kirkcaldy just to get into the place, who ever designed it and who ever ok’d the design had no idea about growth and expansion.

They only make the spaces for cars, when most of us drive trucks. Makes it very difficult to get anywhere. Parking is the worst of it . I think the Mayor should get parking spaces doubled in size that would sort this whole thing out. Pretty obvious solution

With our carbon footprint reduction in years to come we will be forced to drive electric vehicles the size of Geo Metros and it will look like we have tons of room to park.

I was under the impression the yellow lines are just a helpful guide , notthe law of the land where your car would be towed if you stray. Most cities call for commercial properties to provide a certain number of spots to develope... so the smaller the spot the more they can declare.

If I remember correctly when the property was being developed, the business (s) that were going to lease the stores from the developer o:bjected to the amount of parking spaces the parking lot would have. It was discussed at a city council meeting and decided the spots could be made smaller to end up with more spots overall. I don't know if council had to approve that decision or if it was up to the developer. Bottom line is though, only so many vehicles of any particular size will fit in a parking lot of a given size. It doesn't matter where you paint the lines. If the spot is too small for your vehicle you're going to need more room, and then you end up with a discussion like this.

Definitely time to make the parking spots bigger. Somebody should make some changes as this discussion comes up often. It’s no wonder people are stressed!
