The city used to have a law requiring people to trim hedges back to property line.  
Also, the city should be trimming trees so pedestrians, especially those who are blind or using an umbrella, can walk freely on the root bound sidewalks.

The city is a disgrace! It is so top heavy with management that there are not enough employees to do the work. Not only are the trees overgrown that you can not walk on the sidewalk but so is the weed infested grass, crumbling pavement and curbs, roads everywhere are also in need of repair. Playgrounds do not even have the grass cut. I go to a lot of garage sales so I am all over the city and can honestly say no area is in GOOD condition.  
 
They could not even fix the pot hole on 13th by the church before the parade. Hope no one twisted an ankle !

The city might be able to move out a few positions up top but will it actually make a difference down below? Last I seen was students running lawn mowers. It has just been recently in the paper graduation. So I speculate that students are wrapping up school before working for the city for the summer. I have seen back lanes getting trees trimmed, street sweepers out, trucks filling pot holes, you name it. Rome wasn't built in a day nor do I expect all the maintenance to be done. Funny we want green space yet we don't want to have the patience to wait for it to be mowed. Jesus I have only cut my lawn once so far this year. If anything I wish they would spray again for weeds.

If this hedge is growing on private property, isn’t it the responsibility of the owner to keep the hedge trimmed. We have a caragana hedge on our property that we trim. Could you not call bylaw enforcement?

Hundreds of property owners should be trimming to their line. This encroachment on public property is common!!! This is a post about making them trim it or remove it, NOT new taxes..  
Hanging tree branches are a minor thing that whoever cuts curb grass or walks by could snap them off so no blind people get poked in the eye especially in the winter...not that it would matter (humour arar-settle down)

Are complaint driven. Complain to the city. They will inspect and then direct the owner to clean that hedge up. Complaining on here does get people taking about the problem, but will never get the problem addressed.

Should not have to do the job of the by-law officer, if they would get out of their trucks and walked around the core area they would see the problem. I don’t walk around downtown checking the meters for them to see which ones are expired then call them to come out and write a ticket!

Some people get sidetracked!!!  
It was just a public reminder to citizens to do there part.  
I'm not going to the city for God's sake. They know it's bad in 100's of yards.

Tax increases have been kept below the rate of inflation since SDH was given the boot and no cuts to any city service. There were plenty of other reasons SDh was made to look bad, a proposed 20% increase was only the tip of the iceberg.

File a complaint with Bylaw through Brandon Police Service at 204-729-2345. Push 0.  
They will issue a notice to the homeowner.  
If not done they can be fined.

It's abundantly clear to even the least astute persons reading this discussion that I was talking about an increasingly common problem of neglecting to trim hedges all over the city.  
I will not be calling city hall to report "the" problem 'one' and taxes will not go up because, as I understand it, property owners will do it or face fines which btw are the opposite of being taxed!!!  
I hope this is the end of discussion!

ps city employees can see the hedges without me calling to say, "look at the hedges!"

City employees likely have seen it but will they do anything about it.  
My guess is not likely until someone makes a complaint and then it will only be about the specific area that the complaint was lodge.

The photo looks almost like my front hedges ( that I trimmed neatly down to 6 feet last year trimmed the sides nice and neatly) This year I was letting the flowers all come to bloom before I cut them back .. And this was the weekend I had planned for them the flowers have just left them and the damn rain came , and the water that has come down has really spread the hedges out farther, However until its dry I can't really cut them with a set of electric trimmers , so anyone coming by my place I apologize !!
