Just wondering if anyone else has encountered getting text messages at 1 am? Why do people think this is acceptable?  
I mean email sure but text?  
Those who send text messages late at night aren't even considered for my items. I find it incredibly rude to wake someone up in the middle of the night to ask about an item for sale. I am considering not using my phone number for these ads because of this. :/

I sometimes write a note in my ads that says, “No texts or calls after 10:00. Email anytime”.  
You shouldn’t have to tell people this, but sadly, you do.

I turn my phone to silence at night and Voila - No annoying text /calls! Problem solved

I just assume everyone gets a notification whether it’s fb messenger, email or text so either way, no matter what time it is, it’s gonna be an alert if the person doesn’t have their volume off?  
 
I send a message when I see the ad. I’m a night owl so I usually browse the classifieds and fb marketplace then. If I don’t send a message then, I’d forget by morning lol or I’d lose the contact info/ad

Maybe I'm in minority but doubtful...I have all sound alerts for fb and emails turned off regardless if volume is on. Unfortunately my Samsung doesn't allow for just turning off sound for texts unless ringer is turned off as well. So I definitely am with OP that it is rude to send text messages thru the night time hours and would not like to be woken for frivolous things.

That’s good to know! I only send emails or fb messenger because I do agree, a text overnight for a $5 or $10 item would annoy me too!  
 
I keep my phone on silent overnight so I don’t worry about when people send messages though. If you have to keep your text alerts on overnight than I’d definitely suggest just not communicating through text for classified ads

I assume if you’re responsible enough to own a cell you should be responsible enough to manage it to not disturb your sleep.  
 
I have my phone set to turn off at ten until six thirty AM.  
 
I sometimes wake up at night and may browse ads. I will send texts or emails at that time. If you want privacy set your device accordingly.  
 
I notice a lot of scam texts and emails arrived while my phone is off. Problem solved

I cannot simply turn off my phone at night.naybe for you it is but it's the only way I have for people to reach me in an emergency. It should be common courtesy not to text in the middle of the night. I have all notifications for all apps shut off but like another poster said you cannot simply turn off your text notification.

I agree with you. And why I only use an email address on any classifieds. I might use my number if I'm selling a house or a car but everything else you can email me. I wish I could turn my phone off and go to bed at 10 and wake up at 630 however with elderly parents, teenagers and a business to run that's not an option. Should be common sense to not text (or call) at those hours but obviously by this thread you can't rely on that anymore. I would just use your email. I never had an issue selling stuff that way.

In 8 years I've never had a text, email, call after 10 pm. Interesting...

If you don't put a phone number, you don't have to worry about calls.  
 
Just ask them to e-mail below on the Ad.  
 
It solves having all those people still calling when you have sold an item.  
 
Easier just to delete e-mails.

I know it lowers the amount of people you get interested, but don't post your phone number.  
 
Almost everyone is connected to the internet in some shape or form these days, ask them to email and if further details are required then proceed to give out your phone number from that point.  
 
I also noticed I stopped getting as many robo calls / spam calls when I quit posting my phone number on public online classifieds. (Not just eBrandon)

I don't know about anyone else but my phone has a volume control setting for the ringtone for phone calls and a separate volume setting for notifications. If you don't want text notifications at bedtime turn only that one down. Then you can still receive emergency phone calls should you get any.  
 
I get texts throughout the night all the time and I don't see them till I get up. Texting to me is like emails. You send them and reply to them when it's convenient. It does not need to be a real time conversation.

That text notifications woke me up. The phone will wake me up if it rings, but nothing else will. Text me all you like, I just sleep right through.
