I think it’s fine given the details provided (and I have a child that age)

It's totally great. I don't even understand why the question is being asked given all of the info provided.  
 
Totally dating myself here - My best friend's dad took four of us kids to go see Triumph at the Winnipeg arena during their Thunder Seven tour. I was the youngest at eleven years old. It was my first concert, and I had the time of my life. To this day, I still remember how exciting it was and how incredible the whole atmosphere felt.  
 
Take your kids and make some rock n' roll memories with them.  
You won't regret it.

Rfm is actually pretty laid back. I have never seen a mosh pit there, and with this years line up i cant see there being one. It is by far a more relaxed atmosphere than country fest. I have taken my kids 7,9, and 12 there with no worries. Security is fairly tight too

We've been taking our kids since they were about 10. Now that they're teenagers they aren't really that interested anymore. We had no issues. RFM is very laid back. Why does your wife think it's inappropriate?

I think it would be inappropriate. Too young yet. Just my opinion.

Well considering I have been going the last 5 plus years or so now I would have no issues taking any aged child to RFM. I would say to allow a friend to come because come on now, sitting at a concert with parents in a bleacher sounds pretty lame. Mosh pit? Almost laughed there. The pit is so wild my grandma would be able to handle it lol. Haven't seen a mosh pit there yet. There are youth of all ages there. It is great to see the younger crowd come out and enjoy the music of the older generations. My buddy took his kids to X-Fest when it was here and they still talk about it. Get out a make some memories!!

If the other parent thinks they are too young, do NOT come on ebrandon just to say “look a bunch of complete strangers agree with me on how we should raise our children!” Or you will find yourself sleeping on the couch.  
 
Talk to Rockin the Field coordinators themselves, get solid facts on safety, then present a logical mature argument. If the other spouse is still unconvinced, then just go by yourself without the kids to keep the peace.

Wow! finally someone who listens to Steelheart. LOL, our band does a Steelheart cover and people always think it's an original.

Your children could very well be exposed to more inappropriate behavior at school or a family gathering than a day at rfm.  
We should let our children experience life rather than over protect them. Do you not trust yourself to be a good shaperone

RFM is a great family event. It's not at all an out of control environment. I went when I was very young with one of my parents and thought it was great. 13 or 14, can't remember....maybe younger?  
 
It's honestly just a ton of very friendly people enjoying some rock and roll music.  
 
There is alcohol service, but that is true of pretty much every event, and I don't think it makes an event "adult" at all.  
 
Take your kid, they will have a blast. I would only say don't camp if you think it might be a bit too long of an experience for your kid.  
 
It can be hot and a long day, so play camping by ear, but if you have the means to go you totally should! What a great chance to bond.

Have a calm, rational, logical discussion? Good advice, but why the ragepost delivery? Parenting isn't entirely emotional, nor is it all logic.  
 
After all....it takes a village.

I was 15 when I first attended what was then Classic Rock Weekend (1997). CBC News interviewed my Dad that year and I remember him saying "Some Dad's take their kids fishing, I take mine to a rock concert." I'm now 37 and haven't missed a year. I have gained a huge love for music and everything the festival is about.  
 
Just recognize they will observe the typical things a party crowd can bring.
