Am I missing something or are there any radio stations in Brandon that give the news out during the day? At one time, not too long ago, CKLQ was actually doing this but now it seems that is something in the past. Can someone tell me if there is at least a station that tells us anything that is happening here in town...at least during the day.

Noticed that too and it seems that it’s on the half hour now not at the top of the hour. And the updates are within a few minutes of the top of the hour. Like 103 not 1 or 1257 not 1 ( unless my clocks off lol)

and what station is that news on.

During the week for sure they give news at the top of every hour, weather and sports.

I contacted CKLQ and asked why they don't have a 9:00 AM news brief anymore and was told the program director has made some changes. They still do have a very short news report at 8:30 AM though.  
 
I now listen to CBC radio news at 9:00 AM at the end they have a Wpg. update that might have a more local flavour.

Boy did they sure screw up what was a good thing.

We don't need similar station formats competing with one another. We need different formats: classic hits (BOB), newer hits (STAR) goes hand in hand. New country (Farm) and new country (Q) is just a failure waiting to happen...and Q will fail.  
 
Also, what happened to Wayne Kozak? Glad they kept Leanne, but Wayne was the best drive home host in Brandon.

Has gone downhill never to get up again unless return to the old programming it is doomed to fail .Listeners like to hear local news at the top of the hour all day long .Less yap from Dj's more music .

I have to give credit to the WCG stations (Q, Star) for having a human presence pretty much 24/7. Though neither play music that I like (no one in town does lol), it's nice to have a place to turn to for updates, just in case.  
 
As opposed to having a storm wreck havoc around the city during the evening, yet STILL hearing the same "chance of a severe thunderstorm throughout the evening tonight" recording repeated hourly.

CBC Radio Manitoba 97.9. FM. Winnipeg news but also you’ll hear any relevant Brandon and Provincial news on the half hour and world news at the top of the hour. Closest local Manitoba content I enjoy at the moment.

I get more news update inquiries from posts on here or Brandon Police page then radio. Then again not usually a lot of news worthy stuff going on here besides that guy drove to slow or fast or meth crisis....

Just like all the other stations now they were the one station that was tolerable with all the news, birthday greetings, swap and shop and local talk shows. Sad that they chose to go the genetic way. Need something like 630 ched in the edmonton region all news and talk shows

I have grown up listening to CKLQ. It was always a great station. I do still usually listen to them but I often find myself looking for another station. They used to have a great variety of old and new music but now if I’m in the tractor all day I can hear the same song up to 6-8 times a day it gets really old really quick. I know some of the people that work at that station do read these I hope they know that people are not happy with how the programming has changed. I feel like it started going down hill when Bill Turner retired, and as each dj we have listened to for so long either leaves, retires or is no longer on the air Bill Cochran, Wayne Kozak, Steve. The programming has only gotten worse. I would be completely surprised if they do actually bring swap and shop back if they do they really need to bring it back between 11 and 12. I was a huge support of them switching to FM and having both signals but the programming went down again when that happened. Not to mention it seems the quality of both signals have dropped. My only hope is that with Leanne still there she can maybe get things back on track. Sorry for my rant this was much longer than anticipated.

I really miss not hearing news and weather every hour. And having it last more than 30 seconds. I never listen to CKLQ anymore.

So sad, so sad, have to go to Wpg. radio station, to get a snippet of Brandon news, and again, watch a Wpg. TV channel , to possibly catch some news about Brandon,; and yes, we do live in Manitobas second largest city. Something is not adding up right.  
We are so in the backwoods.

Maybe Golden West will consider bringing their MIX and Country formats to Brandon....and give Westman Comm's stations a run for their money.  
 
EVERY Gokden West station Carrie's local news every 1/2 hour from 6 am til 9 am and noon til 1 and 3 til 6...and every hour outside of those hours.  
 
They also pride themselves on local everything.  
 
CJRB Boissevain is a Golden West station, and could be a great alternative for those seeking Westman news and information.

A few thoughts from where I sit as someone that doesn’t listen to the on-air product but takes an interest in seeing news online...  
 
- I know they were advertising to hire a reporter and think someone might’ve just started so don’t be surprised if changes are incoming in the news dept. With us having lost the Journal and before that CKX, their role is that much more important and so it’ll be great to see more regular stories if that’s the case.  
 
- on Swap N Shop, i see there’s a note that it was “taking some R N R for the summer”... so maybe back soon?  
 
- Tyler Glen took over Program Director responsibilities in the spring after Steve A’s retirement. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tyler would appreciate folks’ constructive suggestions on what they’d like to see on their station keeping in mind that he won’t be able to please all the people all the time!

You mentioned they are "looking" for a reporter.  
 
You dont really need a reporter in order to deliver news.  
 
The point is, six months ago, they aired news reports at a bare minimum every hour from 6 am til 6 pm. ONCE Wayne Kozaks show was canned, and they let in these new kids to ruin Q Country, the news content took a turn for the worse. Its not like they had reporters 6 to 12 months ago....so why cut the news now? All they really need to do is have Frank pre record the news they pull off the police press releases and internet, then air the pre recorded version every half hour in the mornings. Then, at noon, have a new recorded news hourly from 12 til 4. Then, st 4, pre record a news report to air every half hour from 4 til 6.  
 
I, and many others, feel Tyler or his bosses made a HUGE mistake trying to compete with 101, and this ruining Q Country. The BBM ratings in early 2020 will show exactly that!

I know every organization/business goes through changes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much. You will never know if you don't try.  
 
I've worked with many a people stuck in their way, who loved to lament, "That's not how we used to do it." Well, okay, Karen, but technology has changed, as has how consumers shop and get their information in general. You don't know if something is going to work if you don't give it a shot. Be sure to give Q Country direct feedback. They can't fix a problem if they don't know it exists!  
 
Personally, I want local news back, and CHIP gone. OMG. The first time I turned on Q County and was subjected to his voice, I wanted to cry...  
 
Went and got a Spotify subscription because there's no point in listening to local radio anymore! They're all generic, and have little to no local flavour anymore.

I along with a few other people have sent emails to them about the new programming and just the way the station is in general. Call them or email them and tell them what you think. That’s the only chance it may get changed back from basically being another 101 station.
