The 4 spots for “tim hortons” only (15 mins limit) are being used by people that are not going to tim hortons. I have sat and waited for over 10 mins many times for a spot and nothing. This makes me frustrated and I wish the security parking guys would pay more attention

That’s probably because they are either dropping off or picking up patients. A little more important

what makes me frustrated is that tims has priority parking at the Brandon Hospital. If the coffee means that much to you park and walk.

That perhaps it was someone going to the hospital in a hurry to spend their last moments with a loved one who may not have much time left and wanted to be there before they’re gone?  
Cudos to them for taking a “coffee grabbing spot”. I’d have done the same

I can’t even believe they have Tim Hortons parking. Was entirely unaware of this till now, I’m a bit shocked honestly. I can understand residents who live in the area without vehicle access stopping in, but if you own a vehicle.. why inconvenience a hospital like that? Also realize that you’re complaining about people who actually NEED to be at the hospital. Give your head a shake.

I have seen people that work there park there cars in the Tim's parking and just sit there and wait while.picking up people.gwtting off work...Tim's parking g is for people getting coffee....

Amazing what excuses people will come up with to justify parking somewhere they shouldn't. Really people..."Maybe they are visiting a relative on their death bed." I have visited and been visited in the hospital and have no problems parking in the parking lot where I could then spend time with my loved one or dear friend and not worry about a parking meter. Tim's pays for those spots. It is a common thing. Go to the Shoppers Mall. Parking for Scotia bank customers, parking for Guild insurance customers. Shoot even parking for car pool customers. What are you going to do park in Guild parking and go to East Side as mom is on her death bed and her last meal wanted to be East side? No different than say cabs parking in front of walmart in a fire lane waiting for people, meanwhile others have to try and drive around them.

are there parking spots allotted for Tim Horton’s customers at the hospital? Total waste of resources and valuable space needed for hospital patients and visitors. It’s about time some priorities were adjusted . Health care should come before a cup of coffee.

Oh I don't know....maybe because they pay to be there. I don't know if you have actually been to the hospital but the coffee place is nice to have. Nurses and such go there, patients go there, visiting grabbing a snack and a coffee for a loved one goes a long way. It isn't the whole street. It is a whole 4 parking spots. I have never gone to the hospital where there is a city block of parking right next to these 4 spots and seen the lot full. There is already a drop off spot for picking up and dropping off. So I would like to know how priorities are being missed. Tons of parking on streets and in lots. Funny how 4 spots paid for by a company can cause so much disruption in people's lives.

Tim hortons pay for those four spots so yes it should only be for tim hortons customers only … There are a lot of businesses in the area that I am sure people go on their break to grab coffee and you cannot park in the traffic circle (they are only for patients pickup/drop off) or you will get a ticket. If you are there to grab a cup of coffee, you can’t really park anywhere else except those four spots unless you want to pay $2 for a spot or if you’ll able to find a parking meter spot (the other side is handi only by CAP) If you have an emergency, obviously you can park in the traffic circle or park by the emergency doors. Funny how people can make so many excuses …. I have watched people take a tim hortons spot only to go visit a patient or go to their appointment and their car would take that spot for over an hour. I think some people take advantage of the tim hortons spot because they are free (15 min limit) no meter required

I was in hospital yesterday for a day surgery, not Brandon admittedly. Every time we visit we have to drive around a ridiculously small lot waiting for someone to leave before we can park. Being younger we are ok with that but lots of patients and families are not as able as we are so frankly there should absolutely be priority for hospital parking. Tim Hortons customers should wait for parking like anyone else. I have nothing against Tim’s being at the hospital but no one needs to drive there and take a parking place from someone that needs it. Hospital parking is just that, for the hospital.

You are comparing some other hospital to Brandon? If you were in day surgery in Brandon you would have had the opportunity to park right at the front doors of the hospital to be admitted. How awesome is that! You can't get any closer than that. Those poor people looking for a coffee have to walk all the way across the street. Then if you do need to park there are 3 blocks of street parking available and a huge parking lot for everyone. There is also another large parking lot besides the medical building. Boat loads of parking all over. I think I counted almost 300 parking spots in the area. So what is Tim's taking....1%ish of the available parking spots?

Pays a lot of money for those parking spots on an annual basis, when they first opened people were using the circle area to park and go grab coffee, this upset a lot of people so the franchisee and the hospital came up with this arrangement, but as I said Tims pays thousands of dollars a year for those parking spots for their patrons, they aren’t simply reserved for Tims customers.

I am also surprised that there are designated Tim Hortons parking spots there. I didn't know that but, I suppose, if the the health authority is willing to sell them spots, they have every right to buy them.  
 
As for me, I would never think to use the hospital Tim Hortons as a place to grab coffee and run. Too much of a zoo around there. I am happy Timmies is there when I am there but...  
 
Now that I know people use that location for take out, I still won't. I know some will argue it is the closest to where they are but, No Timmies is ever that far away in Brandon. Just my opinions.

Like I previously said, those four spots are paid by tim hortons and people take advantage of those spots because they are FREE. Why pay a spot in the lot if you are going in to grab a coffee and leave within 5-10 mins? Like fishing guy said …. If you have day surgery or something else, you can either park at the traffic circle or the other 300 spots available?? Quit making excuses

but I wouldn't care about special Tim Hortons parking. You can park anywhere in a loading zone or "Courtesy parking zones" like expectant mothers/hybrid cars/CIBC 15 minute parking, etc as long as you don't exceed the time limit. Even if we set aside the fact that for every non Tim Hortons vehicle in the Tim Hortons parking there are 4 people in the patient drop of parking getting Tim Hortons...it all comes out in the wash...

I very much doubt Tim Hortons pays for those spots. I would love to apologize and change my previous comments if you can provide any verification that they are paid spots? Even "I work there and know and for a fact" will do.

The priority for a hospital should be patients not Jimmy 2 Shoes not feeling like driving down to 26th street for a coffee. You're right...the Tim Hortons is there for people visiting patients and those people park in the prime spots. If all you want is a coffee you can park down the block. Give your head a shake son. My wife was in for surgery and we have 2 small kids...and I'm parking down the block and dragging them with me just to drop off her night bag because everyones filling the prime spots grabbing coffee? that's silly.  
 
I mean why not put a Denny's in there or a subway? Following your logic...Tim Hortons isn't some sacred thing, it's 3rd rate coffee company owned by Burger King. I don't understand why people put it up on this pedestal and treat it like it's more than a Robins Donuts

Where are the “courtesy parking zones” … we don’t have those. The four spots from tim hortons are courtesy (free)? The limit is 15 minutes. You can’t park in the traffic circle for getting a cup of coffee or you will get a ticket and as for the loading zones (I have tried parking there once to quickly grab a coffee and almost got a ticket)

You are allowed to park in any loading zone as long as you do not exceed the posted time limit. Ask the nice by law officers next time you are out.

If Tim's didn't have those spots and they were to use for anyone else....and they were already filled from someone....what would you and your two small kids do dropping off a day bag? Drive around the block over and over until a prime spot opens? Or maybe...just maybe the prime parking in the circle would be available for dropping off the day bag with your two kids. Lol. I have dropped off machines and such while parking in the circle. Now if you are visiting for a long period where would you park? The difference from the Tim's spots to the furthest part in the parking lot is 400 feet. It is comical to read about reasons why. I guess too that is why people don't put back their shopping carts because the 50 feet is too far to go with kids in tow. What did we ever do back in the day.

Not a convenient drive through to stop and pick up coffee. It is inside the building for patients, staff, and inside visitors, who actually use common sense. Parking in the roundabout while stopping by to pick up Tims is actually against the rules stated on signs all around the roundabout. It is patient pickup/dropoff only. It's a public care facility, not a mall food court. There are 4 spots for Tims parking as a convenience, located on the street (NOT THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE), which Tims rents for customers who choose to use common sense by NOT PARKING IN THE PATIENT PICKUP/DROPPOFF AREA. If someone feels they need coffee that bad, they can go to an actual standalone location, instead of fighting for space at the HOSPITAL .  
As for the use of Tim Hortons assigned space, it is possible that customers are either in a long line (over the minute wait), or they are straight up just parking, and sitting in the seating area inside the hospital, drinking their coffee. And yes, I know this happens, because I've seen people come in from that parking area, who get their drink, and then proceed to sit with their friends inside,instead of leaving.  
There are far too many people who abuse the parking situation, and make it difficult for picking up/dropping off on a regular basis. But we also have to remember that with current transitioning of the rural health care system, as well as an increase in Brandon's population over the last decade there are far more patients needing to park at the hospital, and visitors increasing too, adding to the stress of an already maxed out parking infrastructure.

You are missing the point. No one needs to drive to Tim’s at the hospital specifically for their coffee. If that is ones only reason to be at the hospital then that is a shame. They can get coffee elsewhere or walk. Hospital parking spots should be specifically for hospital related use. Absolute parking priority should be given to patient care, visiting loved ones and of course hospital staff. It is surely inconceivable to prioritize anything above patient care. And it should certainly have nothing to do with how much Tim Horton’s does or does not pay for parking spots. Patients and their families should come first above everything else.

Stop whining about someone taking a spot to drop off a person who needs to be there more than you all getting your coffee..wow!

I had a friend in the Assiniboine Centre and picked up some goodies for him during some errands. I had no intentions of coming in for a visit at that time. I had lots to do that Sun. morning and planned to come later in the week.  
 
I fully admit I parked in the Timmie's spot, ran in, made a quick delivery to him and left before my 15 minutes was up.  
 
I am sorry if you did not get your Timmie's because of my use of that spot. I felt better about doing that than parking in the loop marked "loading zone patient drop off/pick up." I was not picking up or dropping off anyone.  
 
I will do the same thing again in a heart beat too!

I am not missing the point. Hospital spots are for hospital spots. We might as well include Kim's Asian in this too. They should have no access to parking spots in this area either. Right? Others can eat somewhere else. What everyone is failing to realize is the hospital has priority loading areas for dropping off a bag or dragging your kids with you. They also have a parking lot for them too. Actually 2 parking lots. And the comment about going to Tim's for a coffee only...really? Why can't I go to a business for a coffee? Where in the East end is a cheap coffee place? And I guess too shouldn't go to Kim's cause that is a clinic building and it should be for medical visits too right?

No.. Your Kims analogy makes no sense, it is part of a commercial complex...that building is a commercial complex where the clinic/kims/pharmacy is just another business. It's not a publicly funded building, a company owns it and all the business in there pay rent and have parking...I'm not sure why you're so jacked up over Tim Hortons. The hospital is a government building and just like an airport Tim Hortons likely tendered the highest bid to provide that service knowing they'd have a captive audience but the Hospital isn't a commercial building it is 100% funded by tax dollars and Tim Hortons is 0% important to the success or function of that building and what it's there to do. Tim Hortons brings NO value to the hospital, even the tiny relative rent paid wouldn't move the needle on the hospitals over all budget, they are their to save the hospital having to staff/fund/stock a similar gift shop/convience. There shouldn't be any parking or any consideration at all for Tim Hortons..it's a coffee shop for god sake I can't believe there are 29 comments on this and even worse I'm like 5 of them...whats wrong with me? why do I keep getting baited by these silly arguments with people that won't/can't see any reason?
