Kids smoking and vaping

Hey! I am just thinking as I drive by Crocus Plains School today and notice all the kids out there smoking and vaping. Can the kids be ticketed? They are not legal age. I am not trying to start arguments or anything I am just curious. I am a parent and I know my child tried vaping. I am just curious if they can get a ticket or even have their cigarettes and vapors confiscated by the police?

...but I believe that it is only illegal to sell such products to minors. The law only states that vaping can't occur in public spaces such as schools, restaurants, assembly areas and hospitals, etc. But as far as actually consuming the product, I don't think there is any such law.

It’s illegal to sell these products to those under 18, but there is no law that says minors can’t “smoke/vape”. However, in my experience, teens have no trouble getting their hands in these products. The amount of teens vaping these days is astonishing. It’d be interested to hear actual statistics.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. Interesting how it is illegal to sell to someone under 18 but yet not illegal for them to smoke or vape under the age of 18. I seriously thought both were illegal to sell and for them to smoke/vape under the age of 18.

Seems like a pretty cruel solution to addiction, and I don't think there is any hard evidence that fines/tickets actually change behavior.

There has been under-age smoking for generations. Our parents and our parents-parents very likely smoked under-age. Same with under-age drinking. So this is nothing new.

The other night around ten o’clock was at 711 there was a group of 5 or 6 underaged kids there asking people to buy smokes for them. Only took em three asks while I was in the store and they got some one to do it.

Purchasing for something for underage person: they are setting themselves for a big fine.

Perhaps more not sure exactly what the penalty.

Just that it is illegal.

This is not a new generation issue. We spent a lot of time at the ‘smoking doors’ at Massey in the 80’s.. the only difference is we could buy smokes at 14 for 3.75 . Kids feeling the need to be accepted will try to get that from whichever friends they can.
