    Is roughly the size of a crow... the other possibility I thought of was the Sharp-shinned hawk - only about the size of a Grackle- until I read the habits of a Cooper’s Hawk... “often perches on telephone poles, unlike the Sharp-shinned.” That pretty much confirms your suggestion.

    Trio of these in our area over the last few days. Pretty good size for a woodpecker....I gather not totally unusual during the summer in town, but something new to our neighbourhood at least!

    Yeah, I thought the humming birds were gone, but filled my feeders on Friday anyways. I have still had a couple of adults and babies feeding. Still some barn swallows hanging around too. The orioles are gone from my yard tho.

    We had birds hanging around our empty bird feeder (we hadn't filled it in months), so my husband filled it today and we suddenly had about 30 birds swarm our yard! lol Quite a few goldfinches! And one very brave chickadee that kept coming into our porch to each his prizes that he'd drag over from the feeder.

    They like to perch on the rolled bales of hay and you can see them quite clearly,  
     
    sorry don't have a picture but certainly worth a drive around
