To the Support workers and volunteers at the HOMELESS SHELTER

I want to extend a big thank you to all the hard working staff and volunteers who are working countless hours to make sure that our cities most vulnerable have a safe place to self isolate as well as healthy meals to help keep their immune systems healthy. And they do this risking their own health! You guys rock, along with all the other people out there giving selflessly every day to help curb this pandemic.

The many hospital staff, THANK YOU

I always read “the doctors and nurses” but don’t forget there’s many other front line hospital staff and support staff who are at greater risk. Health Care AIDS, lab staff, physio therapists, X-ray workers, and the list goes on. And how about Housekeeping staff who are so diligently cleaning to prevent the spread of germs.

To the home daycare providers and any providers open at centres. We know you struggle and that this is not an easy time deciding to stay open to care for essential workers children.

I went shopping this morning at Coop, everything went well, staff is well prepared and distancing is enforced.

As for thanking everyone who are still working in any field I like to think that they should be respected every single day A little bit of kindness goes a long way!

Thanks to Murray and Kevin from CAREICA Health and to all of the home oxygen techs in the province that go to peoples home to set them up with oxygen so they can either go home or free up a hospital bed for others.

And I also hope that we all are kinder to one another after this is done. I know I will be forever grateful for them all! The grocery store people, fast food employees, janitors, cleaning staff and all those that we all take for granted during our "normal" lives. They have been awesome!! Of course the frontline hospital, paramedics, firefighters, police, RCMP. They are all the real hero's during this time.

People, get out there and throw something together for your car or truck. It doesn't need to be fancy!

These residents will love it!

Just wanted to highlight that the date on the Valleyview Care Centre parade is Wednesday. I hope there’s a great turnout tomorrow!

Two more shout outs that will be having folks associate generosity with Brandon when this whole thing is reflected on after it’s over...

Maxim Truck and Trailer will be giving out free meals to truck drivers from today through Thursday the 9th, 11am-3pm from their location off of the Trans Canada (they’re preparing to give out up to 3000!!). Brandon location was chosen for being central along Hwy 1:

CAA Road side assistance and tow ruck drivers who have stepped up to deliver meals on wheels when some of the volunteers had to drop out and also the volunteers who are still delivering much needed meals to those who need them.

Kudos on a great way to put maker space equipment to use.

Very different kind of mask for a very different use, but I also posted yesterday about a volunteer group that are making and giving out non-medical homemade cloth masks to those in need...

Veterinarians and Their Support Staff

Big shout out to the Veterinarians and their staff who are taking care of sick pets both Small and Large. To the staff answering phones, gathering up food and medication, taking payments by phone and taking pets, food and medication out to clients. For Large Animal Vets still doing on farm calls to assist with emergency situations. Thank you!!

meals for others

I work at a local restaurant. Over the past few weeks I’ve had calls from all over the place (Alberta, Ontario, and in town) of people buying a meal for a family member and have us deliver it. Most frequently it’s some adult “kids” buying meals for elderly parents. But I’ve also seen a man buy a meal for a neighbouring family that was down on their luck. Pretty heartwarming to see.

Police/Fire birthdays

A little more on the birthday drivings through neighbourhoods that Police and Fire have been doing. Via yesterday's City live stream, with the change in weather they won't be able to take any new bookings... but by the time remaining bookings are fulfilled into May they will have done about 150 (!!!!) birthdays. Cheers to all involved!
