While self isolating and still taking precautions just wondering what everyone’s weekend plans were. My kids have been home now isolated for two full weeks. It feels like spring today. We have painted rocks and hid them, rode our bikes, walked the dogs, and cleaned the yard. Just wondering if anyone has ideas for this weekend or all of next while we are on spring break. To keep their minds healthy I don’t want 9 days of electronics. But yet I’m struggling to come up with creative ideas after two weeks. We are all feeling a little meh.

Ctv news had a good idea, and its things you can make from around the house! Google minute to win it ideas! Good luck!!

How about a road trip to do a bit of geography ?  
 
Get a Manitoba road map and look up where you would like to go with the kids, .... such as say Dauphin :  
Going through the Minedosa Valley, on to RMNP ...keep going Hwy 10 .... might see wildlife.....stop at a drive thru for a meal in Dauphin....return home through Ste Rose...check out the Grotto....what is a grotto...who is the child praying there...why ? ..... just outside Ste Rose you may see bison  
... then in McCreary you will see the statue of Archie, who is Archie, why is he holding skis.?....when you get to Kelwood, you will see a red barn....drive in the town and out again...on to Neepawa and back to Brandon.  
The trip would give your children something to draw and write about as in a journal. Or take pictures and post on facebook.

I thought everyone was supposed to stay home during these times?

Did you see where some are isolated and started to put up Christmas lites and decors. Not here in Canada but other countries, kinda thot was cute. They were also making them to keep their kids busy. Just an idea.

have to socially distance ourselves, if your only going to stay in your vehicle and limit interaction with others. I don't see why you can't take a family road trip and view the sights of the area from you vehicle windows.

Car rides, with the people you live with are quite safe. Do not get out and go for coffee/ treats somewhere, that’s all. You can go through a drive-through if you are feeling lucky and park somewhere for a type of picnic, though.

They are informative check points and they are only at the Provincial borders so unless you're planning on taking the family skiing in Banff you should not encounter any. And I agree with Trevor you are to practice social distancing you don't have to hunker down and be a hermit. Well unless you're a snow bird or out of province traveler then quarentine your butt for 14.

Now is the time to try new things.  
I suggest a lot of people try video games.  
There is countless options out there for everyone and honestly it's a great way to bond and feel social when you are cooped up inside.

Do a “pamper” day and give each other pedicures; Make a tent in the living room and pretend to be camping out; A back yard treasure hunt for things that you hide or for signs of spring; Make thank you cards for front line workers ; Family game night; Create and record a skit to send electronically to a friend or family member that you are missing; record reading a story book for a friend or relative.

My kids found a perfect climbing tree in our backyard and rediscovered our homemade jungle gym now that playgrounds are shut down.  
Some ideas: give your kids a camera. Learn how to identify animal tracks and homes, or trees. Do some science experiments. Learn cursive or knitting or another long term hobby.

In the living room and invited my wife to join me inside.... she called me immature! So I told her to stay out of my fort!! (Actually...she liked it). A sense of humour goes a looong way in tough times.

are to use my telescope on my balcony at night and also use my MallinCam astro video camera to do some live streaming. I have a YouTube channel setup. I'll share the link if I get it going. It will be trial and error to get things on the camera set right.  
 
But now that I've also been laidoff, I have the time at to stay up late without having to go to work in the morning.

That we had now been asked to stay at home and restrict our travel to essential travel only for work, supplies or healthcare.

I agree partially to this. But on the other hand. What about the fuel your vehicle will need. You will have to touch gas pumps and have human interaction with a teller. The original poster also suggested grabbing some lunch some where also. So there is more interaction.  
 
Further more. Many governent officials have asked us please to not leave our house. They don’t need more people galavanting around the countryside. What if an accident were to happen?  
 
There was a story last week out of B.C. were a couple thought it would be ok to go ski some lines adjacent to the highway. Triggered an avalanche and needed like 20 rescuers. They didn’t plan on any of that to happen but neither does anyone plan on getting in an accident or touching a gas pump that has been infected with corona

Thankfully I didn't respond to this last night, and re-read this a few times today, but this made me angry.  
 
I guess i'm trying tio understand the behaviour and the thinking, at this present time, of why you think that this is oj travelling around putting yourself and others at risk,  
 
Also, what does self-isolation mean to you. Is it after the 14 day period? What day are you on?  
 
I:m partly angry that this is happening, but equally angry of people not taking this as seriously as it should be.

This is in response to the last poster, not the original post.  
Many people need to be on the highways for various reasons. I live an HOUR away from Brandon and there are many things my small, local grocer is out of, that i can only get in Brandon.  
I loaded all my kids in the car and made a fun "trip" out of it, just like you are critisizing. We did a Walmart pickup (didn't go inside), walked on one of the paths (didn't encounter any other people), and did drive-through ice cream before we came home. We are still distancing while accomplishing goals and having fun. Please don't think that staying inside a stuffy house for two solid weeks is healthy or necessary. Nature is not cancelled, and people still need supplies.

The purpose of social distancing and self isolating is to flatten the curve. The only people who are stuck in absolute quarantine are those who are ill or who have travelled or who have come into contact with someone who is ill. With a new illness where nobody yet has immunity, this is especially important, as we have seen how Italy, Spain, Iran, and other countries have been torn up by not taking this seriously.  
 
I would argue that going for car rides and walks are okay, (ONLY with people you live with, and maintain your distance with other people), as well as getting essential groceries. However if you are experiencing ANY sign of illness, STAY HOME until your symptoms resolve.  
 
I personally think that going to drive thrus and getting takeout is unnecessary. All nonessential contact with other people should be avoided.  
 
The bottom line is that if everyone behaves themselves and does what they're told, we can start going back to normal much sooner.

We ended up going for a drive and checked out oak lake. Took a drive across the lake and let the dogs out for a good run! Ended up getting our first sunburn of the year!! Took some back roads home back to Brandon and actually saw a fox, moose and plenty of deer!! It was a gorgeous day yesterday. We were able to enjoy the lake, each other and the sunshine all while still social distancing!! Social distancing does not mean isolation!!

Taking the time to educate our kids on what classic rock and disco is by blasting YouTube tunes from dawn to dusk and beyond!!!

We took a few country drives, had a big hike, pulled out the bikes and played catch in an open grass area. At home we cleaned out the garage, took down the holiday decor, hauled some broken trees/branches out of the yard, played cards, face timed the older kids who live on their own, cleaned out the fridge and put shelves up in the laundry room.

We have been going for walks on these beautiful days!! Doing projects around the house !! Watching movies , sitting on our deck !! Weather has been great!!!

In the other thread people are concerned with people crossing the boarder even to just drive around and kill time. They bring up concerns like getting gas and touching gas pumps.  
 
How is that any different then a local person going for a ride and touching gas pumps?

Are dying. Stay at home like we are being told to do.

The other thread specifically asked a question about crossing borders, which have specific rules/guidelines applying.  
 
But you're right - touching gas pumps etc will also increase the risk of contracting the virus. We have gloves to wear while doing that, which we shed and throw out and then wash our hands.  
 
But that is something to consider - when "going for a drive", if you need to get gas, get food (even if a drive-thru) or use the bathroom, those are all becoming increasingly high-risk activities.
