Where can I find facts on COVID-19 cases in Brandon?

Just wondering if anyone in Brandon has the virus, all we hear about is cases in Winnipeg. Also have not heard much from the City of Brandon or our mayor as to any help they may be giving ie tax relief, interest free late payments etc. Also what about our school board, are they passing any type of reductions on to the public

Where has the Mayor been hiding..why have we not heard anything from him..Adam you have done an excellent job of keeping us informed with the COVID 19..

just want to assume that any person within 2 meters of you are potentially infected. Besides of course anyone you are currently living with.

Adam has listed all the resources in the main thread. You not find cases listed per city, but for health region. The Provincial website or Shared Health are the best sites for updated info.

They won’t confirm small towns like Brandon. They state Prairie Health Region. Considering we’ve had people tested in town for coming into contact with infected individuals (They were called and asked to come be tested, never told who the infected individual was) , and that we’ve had multiple confirmed infected flights come into brandon in earlier March. It’s safe to assume we have multiple cases in Brandon at this point, and everyone should be acting as if that’s the case.

You won't find any info on specific cities. You should be cautious no matter where you go. The 'facts' only show confirmed/probable cases. There will be cases out there that are untested or still awaiting results. You wouldn't hear any specifics until at least 24-48 hours after anyway.

The Mayor has been heading 3 times weekly live streams by the city... Monday’s, Wednesday’s, Fridays at 4pm. Next will be today.. the link is:

The city website also has a COVID-19 section. Have included a link to that section from the eBrandon front page.

Keep in mind that while there are absolutely issues relevant to the city with COVID-19, the response and so many decisions will be coming from the provincial level. The Mayor and city have been quite uniform in their messaging in directing people to the province and the Provincial website that's setup for COVID-19 for the facts.

It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing case numbers at the city (or RM) level, only the Health Authority level. As of yesterday we had 11 in the Prairie Mountain Health region.

Province has stated to be of the stance that there’s no benefit to the public to know that info at a more specific geographic level and want people to focus on social distancing and staying home unless absolutely necessary. I don’t necessarily fully agree (I'd like to know how the community is impacted too) but I can respect that with privacy considerations and with the importance of trying to keep people focused on the stay-at-home messaging that it isn't necessarily a cut and dry decision. I'm not the one with the credentials to be making these decisions and with everything that’s going on there just isn’t much to be gained by getting into a fight over it.
The best we’ll be able to find out locally are disclosures of flights, events or public places where there’s believed to have been exposures. At this time the only Brandon-related in those categories are the March 14 and March 15 late Westjet flights into Brandon. Perhaps in time some that have tested positive in the Prairie Mountain Health region may choose to share their stories, but I imagine for many that that is not an easy thing to do and in lieu of privacy there's no expectation for them to do.

Prairie Mountain Health takes in a huge area, as some businesses are classifies as essential and may have to visit different towns around Western Manitoba it would be very beneficial to know where the cases are located. If there is 15 cases in Minto for example we would know that a secure location for part drop offs are required and to stay away if possible. Prairie Mountain likely has as many potential clients as the City of Winnipeg so they should be able to segregate potential hot spots for people to be aware of. As one person mentioned above the farming season is fast approaching it may be wise to keep people from a area if at all possible If a person buys there groceries in Brandon and are from Carberry area , say for example there are 10 cases in Brandon and zero in Carberry they wouldn't be coming to Brandon to do there shopping, therefore minimizing the risk of spreading the virus to people in Carberry

One of the problems with giving a more specific location is that for some folks, whose lift may not go to the top, it will encourage mindless acts of vandalism or worse.
Check the BBC news for the idiots who are still going on 100 mile round trips to buy a loaf of bread and when stopped used the excuse it was cheaper. There were many similar reports.
We will get to enjoy the summer quicker if we all stay away from each other as much as possible.
