We would like to get a bird feeder. I'd like one to hanger from a lower branch in a tree. Looking for recommendations on type of feeder for multiple types of birds and recommendations for food types. Thanks

I buy bird feeders at dollar tree and wild bird seed at Walmart,until I get to Cosco when ever this is over,11$ for a 35 pound bag at Coscos

No one answer to this question. Different feeders for different birds.  
Tubes for small birds, large hole for chickadees, sparrows, smaller holes for finches, canaries, etc. Trays for large birds, Blue Jays, etc.. Suet cages for woodpeckers , etc. Bottles for nectars for hummingbird and Orioles. One suggestion, don't cheap out on seed. Better seed gets more birds and a lot less waste on the ground!!

Like to put sunflower seed in a hanging metal feeder with mesh sides, nyjer seed in a plastic hanging tube feeder, and I cut the square blocks of woodpecker blend suet into four strips and push into a hanging wooden feeder with large holes in it. Sunflower bells are great as well. I don’t put out mixed seed anymore as the sparrows waste it. For Hummingbirds and orioles I use a plastic hanging feeder and I mix nectar from the concentrated liquid.

Mixed seed is a waste. Black sunflower seeds are all you need for most birds around here. They love em.

Think all the advice you've been given is spot on.  
I feed birds winter and summer.  
In the summertime I feed black oil sunflower seeds, in a pagoda type feeder from Wal-Mart. It is large enough to hold a fair amount but built so larger birds, crows, magpies,etc can't land on it.  
The only other advice I have is to put your feeder on a pole . If it's hanging in a tree ,squirrels will own it pretty quickly.

Very soon now, a sliced orange stuck on a branch could entice an oriole .

Some solid advice here. Peavey Mart up on the hill is worth checking out for some unique feeders, seeds/nectar, etc. of various types and you can also check local store stock at the link below. I really enjoy having a bird feeder in the yard!

The shelled sunflower seeds you can buy a Peavy Mart.  
The seeds that are dropped are picked up from the ground, so there is no waste. You can also restrict the holes a bit to help some from hitting he ground.  
Make your own suet, with warmed up cheap peanut butter and any bird seed. Just stir in bird seed in to the softened peanut butter till it thickens up. push it into any suet feeder or make your own out of a piece of wood
