Just wondering what everyone is doing with their school aged kids childcare wise these days? I am a single parent who works full time and am having a hard time finding an appropriate place for my son to spend his days. So I thought maybe starting a dialogue with other parents might spark an idea of who/where I could reach out to and possibly even help anybody else who is in the same boat as me.

Yes would love to know what others are doing, my husband and I both work full time and right now my kids are just waiting out the days until we can go back to school. Not the best situation. Hoping that there would be some help or a plan from the government...

The province is telling anyone who's been working, or is going back to work, to use their temporary childcare site to find a spot (for up to age 12). What was your plan for the summer originally? Is that still an option?

I have a few open spots open for part time childcare for school aged kids at the moment! I have a 7 year old daughter + 2 year old son myself. We're located 15 minutes outside of Brandon towards Shilo.

Is there still a child care shortage? Are people without it trying to find it or can they collect serb if they are unable to work due to lack of childcare? I'm considering opening a home daycare as my workplace might not be reopening, but I'm wondering if I'd be able to fill my spots or if people aren't looking for daycare due to covid?

It all depends on when you open. Right now a lot of home providers are closed as parents pulled kids. When they all start to open there will be a lot of spots available

The hardest spot to find is an infant spot, and then add in the fact that the centers are capped at 16 kids now (which might increase to 24, still way less than they had). I'm guessing the rules still apply if you aren't licensed where you can only have 4 kids including your own, but I haven't looked into it much.  
 
People can collect cerb if they cant work due to lack of daycare, but cerb is only for 16 weeks.

Private can have no more than 4 under the age of 12, including your own children. Of those 4, no more than 2 can be under years of age.  
 
If you were to open now, you would probably fill up as essential and frontline workers still need care. There’s also going to be many more going back to work soon by the sounds of it

It was hard to find childcare before covid, now it’s worse. School age spots are also hard because a lot of home daycares only want littles and there really isn’t a center for school age.

A friend of mine was able to get 2 spots in a centre after only like 2 weeks of looking? That’s unheard of!!

What are working parents of school age children doing now that summer day camp options are limited? My pre-pandemic plan was mini u and grandparents which have both fallen through. Are people planning/able to work from home for the summer?
