Whatever initial concern i may have had about being in a buffer zone was moot, after taking a walk around the yard I saw hardly any movement, a couple popped up in a fenced in corner but they were sluggish and slow and easily clapped out of existence.

Now to get back to yard work

Even Discovery Centre is in a good place....
whether it’s fogging, larviciding or a combo of the two, when you can stand here in peace in a bad mosquito year you’re doing alright:

Does anyone know if they fogged last night, Friday night as stated? I didn't hear any fog horns in west end. Weather looked pretty good to me. Still can't go out in my yard and we have one of largest counts.

If there’s been a more perfect deck night this summer I can’t remember it. Can’t help but get the odd flash of the alternate reality we could've been living in if skitters kept on the path they were on. Won't say numbers are down to zero but for right now as manageable as you could ask for.

While the reduction is appreciated, I am wondering if round 2 is in the works. I recall in years gone by they would spray, and repeat a few days later to get the newly hatched ones.

The numbers are going up pretty fast out this way.

Agreed. My area was never fully mosquito free (by the river it’s expected ) but past two days they’re becoming unbearable again. Got bit a ton taking the dogs out to pee this morning.

Via the embed below, weekly trap counts place in the medium range and so no fogging this week:
After last wk’s mosquito fogging, trap counts this past wkd decreased somewhat (avg of 215 on Sat, avg of 723 on Sun). This brings us down to “Med” category in terms of fogging potential. Really bad the last 2 days, can’t even water the plants without getting eaten. They get in when I open the door for dog, then I have to kill 4-5 mosquitos before going to bed. Time to spray again. We pay enough in taxes that I would like to enjoy my yard.

I feel the effects only lasted a day and a half post fogging and then they were right back to biting again. Could not enjoy the evening in the yard with our family tonight. We are in Valleyyview area

Yup. It’s unbearable again in north area. The jump they had in one day for trap numbers proves how badly it needs to be fogged again. If they aren’t increasing their efforts to stop the mosquitos from hatching they need to be killing them by fogging. Like you said, can’t even let the dogs out without having them come into the house in numbers.

It'd be nice to just go back to using malathion. We've used it for years successfully, it costs less than half of Deltagard and actually works.

Still quite tame at our place, but there definitely seem to be areas of the city where they’ve ramped up to bad levels. Not sure I totally understand the difference... was pretty clear in our area the day after fogging that Deltagard works. Maybe as simple as buffer zones, maybe differences in how application was done or maybe differences in topography?Will be interesting to see what trap counts from this weekend show.

Just about the same time we have left to enjoy our backyards this summer.. we need another round of fogging. Don’t make us wait AGAIN..

I was hoping for some back yard time. Perhaps someone can come up with a study that shows mosquitoes carry COVID or that we have to fog them as they refuse to practice social distancing.

Brandon has nothing on clear lake. We were out there last evening and you literally couldn’t be outside after 5, 5:30. Just swarms of them

As if on cue, almost two weeks after the big Aug 13 storm and they really seem to be noticably on the rise tonight in at least the parts of our yard that you first notice an uptick in.

Last weekend’s AFA value had the city at 9 or Low... threshold for medium being ten:

Hopefully don’t ramp up quite as bad as they were in July, but even so fogging is going to be dicey with where overnight lows are going to start dipping to in Sept!
