70`s guy said "Hi all!
Just for curiosity sake I'm looking at 2016 Brandon census and it has for example someone living at 365 3rd Ave. Now we don't have a 3rd Ave in Brandon in 2020. Does anyone know if 3rd Ave in 1916 would be Princess Ave today for example? Or maybe a different
street? "
70's Guy, there has always been numbered Streets, not Avenues - correct there. Princess, Rosser, Pacific, etc. have remained the same since the beginning.
If you spotted '3rd Avenue' on a 1916 Canadian Census, I suspect it may be just be a trans:cription or enumerator error which is quite common, though an unfortunate error.
I pulled up some old City of Brandon Henderson Directories. The following website has City Directories from 1906 - 1955 online. Some folks that don't know these exist might also enjoy scrolling through and looking for their families, old businesses or familiar addresses. The Brandon Public Library has many of these plus later Henderson Directories (post 1955), but these earlier ones are easily searchable online.

Pick your year 1906-1955 (inclusive) and search within that volume.
If you search the 1914 volume (or any year for that matter), it's best to seek out that volume's specific 'format' first for accurate search results. For instance, in 1914, The City of Brandon Henderson Directory spelled out the street names, such as Second St: Third St, etc. with no period on the abbreviated 'St'.
Here is an example:

It makes searching much easier to first check that volume's specific spelling format, otherwise you may not get any 'hits'. 3rd Street typed into the search bar of the 1914 (and many other years) would yield no results. So that's just a tip to ensure better searching. Keep it to the format of the particular year.
If you check the format of a 1955 Henderson Directory, you can see that it changes a bit over the years and is now 3rd STREET

I hope this helps. Lots of fun searching these pages if you enjoy Brandon History and the many businesses that have come and gone.
