Hello! I have created a group called Westman YEET THE TREAT. its an idea where people can drive to house and throw candy out on people's lawns instead of going door to door and risking COVID-19 exposure. I would appreciate it if you guys helped me spread the word and build up on this event! the group is here:

I will just be buying my kids some treats to share.

as long as it isnt 10 below or a foot of snow on the ground or both by then. Good luck

Waste of time and money. Hopefully public health and bylaw dont see this.

I get what you’re trying to do, but just take a second to think about all the reasons this is a bad idea.

Also what’s the difference between candy being handed from a strangers hand into a bag, and candy from a strangers vehicle being thrown from their hand? Doesn’t make sense.

I agree with wrangler. The candies will still be touched and have everyone’s germs on them. If we have learned anything I thought it would be that the transfer of germs is what we’re trying to avoid here.  
 
If you have an asymptomatic case of covid and are distributing the candies thing about how contract tracing would go after.

Is Halloween really this important? People just can’t live without even the most trivial of things it seems.  
 
Not a chance my kids would be collecting candy from our lawn and eating it. Who knows who threw it there, or what dangers (beyond the obvious germs) could be there.  
 
Why not teach our kids that a lot of the things we are missing out on this year are not important and we can still be happy and have fun without all of these things society has placed importance on.

This isn’t really much different than actually trick or treating.

don't throw candy in my yard. Many treats are toxic to pets and my dog will get them package and all.

Treats can be easily collected by parents and sanitized. Wear rubber gloves to collect them and put them in a bowl to spray with disinfectant or wait a couple of days for any potential viruses to die off, COVID doesn't live very long on surfaces. The idea is people are social distancing. Drivers will still have to pay attention to road safety and that is entirely on the fault of the driver. Drivers can also pull into driveways or pull over to throw the candy.  
 
Also, candy will only be thrown to those who sign up via Facebook, people aren't just going to throw candy at random people's houses.  
 
It's a fun idea for people who still want to have fun and be safe regarding COVID, its no different than people doing the birthday parades, some of you really need to learn how to look for the positive side of things in life and not shoot down new ideas immediately.  
 
If people tried to cancel Christmas or any other big Holiday the story would be different.

Sorry, but this is not a case of negativity, it's just an all around terrible idea. I just thought of about 15 reasons why this would be a bad idea, and that's just in the time it took me to type this.

I think everyone here knows that your heart is in the right place. But it just isn't a good idea for many reasons, not just covid related. You are better off spending your time planning something for your own circle for Halloween.

If you have "15 different reasons" then voice your concerns now. We have got lots of time to plan this and make it good, just like birthday parades why not this?

In a birthday parade it’s a simple drive by. Honk horn wave smile. That’s it.  
 
What your purposing is more then a parade. Your proposing a transaction. One that could be putting children in harms way.

Someone on Facebook suggested putting candy into ziplock bags to help group it together and make it easier to sanitize. I feel like if enough precautionary measures are taken we can make this work.

As I replied your post under the Halloween thread, driving around throwing candy at kids does not prevent contamination. The virus can live up to 72 hours on any surface. Please don't do this.

I am sure good intentions but not a great idea on so many levels. Maybe just throw treats on your own lawn or hide and find around your yard for just your own kids

The kids know you and if you know the kids. Plus, have the candy separated/portioned into sandwich bags days before and maybe even have something like your name & house number on it. That could work, but would it be done? ...That's the big question. Random people driving by random houses sound like a disaster waiting to happen. Who needs pins and razor blades hidden in the candy when you simply cough, hack and spit on everything and then thrown through an open window of a moving car in front of a residence that's not even yours. The "Yeet thing" would need to have the drive-by/visits pre-planned for everyone for it to be a success. By that point, it wouldn't be worth the effort for many.  
 
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Not a good idea. Why can’t we just skip Halloween? A little free candy isn’t worth the struggle.

There's no need to skip Halloween! Why does it have to have trick-or-treating? You can celebrate Halloween so many other ways that are just as fun, if not more so. Do things at home with your own family.

In your Facebook group you advertise a way for kids to have fun on helloween without worrying about covid.  
 
How can you guarantee every family gloves up to pre package there candy in bags?  
 
How can you guarantee no one gets covid?  
 
If some one gets covid from this event how do you contact trace?  
 
Who’s responsible if some one contracts covid through the event you organized?  
 
Who’s monitoring any safety measures you do put in place?

Buy your kids the candies that they want to eat. Have them dress up. Go outside, ring the doorbell, yell trick or treat, dump candy in their bags, close door.  
 
They "come home" and see what treats they have, pull up to tv and watch Charlie Brown's Halloween.

People are responsible for themselves. Just because there's an event that doesn't mean people have to go to it.  
 
We might have to live with covid for another year, who knows? We need to learn to adapt to the lifestyle changes.  
 
Like i stated on here and on FB: candy can be quarantined. Pick up the collected candy with gloves and have a quarantine bowl, bag whatever to sanitize and leave it for a week. Candy can be prebagged and that way there's no loose candy that people with toss.  
 
This event is just an idea and completely optional if people don't want to participate they don't have to.  
 
Also I don't see anyone shooing kids away from playgrounds or splash parks? Again this is completely on everyone's own terms and its not my fault or the events fault if someone gets sick just like its not the cities fault if a kid contracts covid at a playground.

So I don’t understand how you feel you have the right to create your own and put people in danger during a pandemic.  
 
I really hope public health sees this and shuts ya down. This is completely irresponsible with a disregard to children’s safety.

My kids can survive without the traditional trick or treating and getting candy from strangers. I, however, cannot survive without my kids.  
 
I think I will keep home where it’s safe.

Yes I do. But don’t you. There is hand sanitizer and whipes in both the vehicles of our family. We whipe things down when we bring them home. Why wouldn’t you right now?
