We live between Victoria and Park, there needs to be some stop signs installed to reduce the speed of some idiots. This is a family neighborhood with a lot of young children. Just witnessed a white Dodge Durango that had to be doing 80+ , the truck pulled air at the intersections. Ridiculous!! Although I've seen in Brandon that stop signs are quite often ignored. What's the best coarse of action here? Start a petition? Who should we contact? Looking for some input to try and resolve this before someone dies. Thanks for any input.

is a favorite spot for racing. Every night, about 11:00 PM, you could set your clock by the racers. I'm glad we moved! There has to be better consequences for these guys (or girls). The cops may pick them up but when they go to court, it's a different story. There has to be better consequences and the judges a little bit tougher than they are. You're right, money does talk. Fine these people, take away their licences for a while and impound the vehicles.

fines the owners of the cars too which are usually parents.  
 
and if underage drivers fine the parents as well as they let their child drive the car  
 
and again impound the car: and no excuses from parents or owners of the cars they need them for work, etc. if they did they won't behave in this way.

I am personally really disappointed with the City of Brandon, I have inquired with them about “traffic calming” measures to help with this exact problem on my own street several times but was told they don’t do traffic calming measures based on public requests. The city of Winnipeg has an official process on how residences on local streets to apply to have traffic calming measures implemented on their streets to keep people from speeding. To bad our transportation engineering staff at the city has very little common sense and refuse to implement a program like this. This is the same staff that recommended and got approved a traffic circle for future construction at 18th and Braecrest lol....

Many years ago when I lived in Winnipeg on a very quiet but very straight and long residential street, trucks and cars about 2 a.m. would race up and down the street for several passes.  
 
Then they'd go away for an hour then back again...  
I tried waving them down, but I almost got run over. I was so tired and angry i felt like throwing a soup can at their vehicles.  
So I devised a not very nice plan that seemed to work.  
I went downstairs to the utility room and got out my huge jar of all kinds of nails screws and sharp o:bjects and a roll of black duct tape.  
I made a very very long strip of tape and then folded it back over on itself so it was no longer adhesive. I then spent about 15 minutes poking darn near every screw and nail from that jar at different intervals throughout the tape.  
 
When they came back for round 2 of street racing, (about 3am) after they passed by I went out and laid the tape across the street.  
Both cars hit the tape on their lap back and the tape kind of flung around their tires and hit the bottoms of their car.  
Made quite the sound.  
It wasn't long until I heard the cars idling at the end of the "track" or should I say street- and they were shut down for the night with several flat tires.  
I was so happy to shut them down though.  
I went back inside discreetly and waited a while then I went back out with flashlight and magnet to try and pick up any other nails or screws that might have fallen by the wayside.  
I didn't need any of my neighbours getting flat tires from my revenge.  
They were never back again or at least that I know... of I moved away not long after.

What is a traffic calming measure?

People . . . don't do this. Please.  
 
Most of us have camera phones now. If you can set your clock by them, be outside waiting! There is no law against filming on public property.

1) Do not do what gearhead52 to has suggested. Very illegal and dangerous. If some gets hurt or property is damaged, you could be liable both criminally and civilly.  
 
2) Contact your area councillor to both lodge your complaint and see if there has ever been a traffic study for this issue, on this street. He should also be able to direct you on how to move forward. You may have to do some leg work by getting a petition going or make a formal appearance before council.  
 
3). Lodge a complaint with the Traffic division of the Police department. They have a number of ways to monitor the problem, from an electric monitor that will record traffic flow and speed, as well as in person observation and enforcement. This data may be useful for your presentation to council.  
 
4). There is a local group that has a mobile speed sign, that can be set up on the street to display speeds of traffic. I am sure the police can direct you to the group.  
 
5). Take down licence plate numbers of offending vehicles, where safe to do so. Record dates and time and speed if known.  
 
The police cannot be everywhere, but a little effort on the part of invested citizens may serve to resolve your problem. Good luck.

Perfect drag strip...no stops between first and eighteenth streets. Have phoned the police several times over the years, but hasn’t stopped it. Impossible for them to be everywhere at once. I get it. How about a 4 way stop sign?

Wants higher taxes but we sure need more traffic cops. Richmond,at about 9:15 every night is a race track also. If the police are too busy downtown(which. I sure understand),perhaps we can hire people without “police qualifications “ to video or get pictures of offending cars and trucks. It’s absolutely out of control now!

Give them the des:cription of the vehicle which you have already, license plate number if you can, time of issue and location. They can narrow it down from there and confront the drag racers in person. Calling your councilor, starting a petition will only delay the issue for a few more months.
