Mix of mature and some that aren't at an age where they've gotten the white "golf ball" heads yet.  
 
No fewer than five of them in the frame in this one quick shot. Got quite a few gooders with the proper camera that I'll put together into a bit of a gallery later.  
 
Impressive beasts. For anyone that hasn't seen one up close in the wild before, they don't make the sound that you'd think they would based on what they use in movies.  
 
Quite a few cars pulling over for a quick cell phone pic... hope folks are careful with how narrow the shoulder is. Also keep in mind that the fence separates land operated by the research station that they won't want anyone going past.  
 
Some were closer to the river by Queen E looking for lunch when I was there. If your timing is good you might be able to catch a safer look from that side!

Added quite a few of the better pics I managed to come away with at the link below... thanks again for the tip!!  A fitting sort of end to outdoor photography season, which more or less started with my desperately trying to get a shot of a single one of these guys soaring way above the city in the Spring!

Thanks guys... if they’re still around, hopefully a few other photographers get a chance too. Lots of talent in this city!  
 
They weren’t just in that research centre area. Some clearly hunting the river perched on trees along the banks/Following the river. Would be awesome to see a shot of one fishing!  
 
I’ve seen one claim that they’ve been around all year, which if true they’ve been doing an excellent job hiding. Have definitely seen share of lone eagles around SW MB this summer and had heard that we had a resident through winter last year, but haven’t been lucky enough to see more than one by itself until this. If they’re migrating, I’ve read that they often move South as open bodies of water (food source) freeze up... so might be around for a little while yet unless the carrion that CarolynP mentioned above is the main draw?

No sign at lunch anywhere from Grand Valley Road through to 1st street that I could see. If they're still around, best bet is to go for a drive and follow the river as best you can even going as far as Rec Centre where I caught one on the banks near the new Riverside development. Have a spotter keep an eye toward the top of taller trees near the riverbank (unmistakable big black blob in a bare tree) and up in the air near the river (by far the biggest anything you'll see flying unless the Westjet flight happens to be on the way in ). If they're flying high enough, because of how massive they are you can usually spot them from a fair distance away. 

Depending on how committed you are, if you do a Google for what their call sounds like it might come in handy... it's quite distinctive, though with this wind today maybe not as easy to pick up!

Great info... I'm still learning, but that would make some sense... as a matter of fact this crew (and probably at least triple this many that didn't fit in the frame) were just around the corner from one perched high up in a tree on the banks....

At least one hanging around. Big guy on the hunt right now nice and low going East-West over Dinsdale toward Discovery..
