Just got a call from a 1- 800 number claiming to be from the RCMP telling me that there was fraud related to my social insurance number. It was a robotic sounding voice. I hope it was a scam because I blasted them with profanity and hung up. I’m just so tired with this kind of thing . Happens a lot lately.

I get 2-3 of these per day.

Exact same call today. Also assumed a scam and hung up.

I don't get many calls like that anymore since I started asking them all the questions eg; ask them what is my name, what is my phone number (because they called me), where am I, where are they and so on and so on, then click they hang up on me.

I have been getting the same message from locally dialed numbers. If you hear noise in the background when they talk you can tell that is spam because Service Canada will not have that issues. you would be on a secured / professional call and when you bring this up they hang up right away. depending who you have on the line the minute you even talk to them they hang up. If you want have fun but if you don't know the number feel free to hang up because they wont do anything to you.

do what we do, if we do not recognise the name, or if no name comes up then we do not answer.  
Answerphone kicks in and if we then recognise the caller we pick up. Most times you get an automated message that we just erase.  
If you do not answer you cannot be scammed.  
If it was really important then they will write.

I occasionally get voicemails from those robots when I miss the calls due to working or a silenced phone. I'm always amused by them.  
 
And I can't wait until there is an international telecommunication authentication standard to at least slow the growth of these scams. Though it looks like providers themselves are attempting to build their own in-house systems (to various results).  
 
Telus claims to have such a system (to which I attempted to enable on my lines), but it appears not to have worked (not yet fully deployed?). Your mileage may vary.  
If you access your bill online, it is worth taking a peek at your telcos features page. There may be a similar option (even if it's still a beta version).
