Okay, I am curious as to what the slightly raised part on the corner of 1st street and pacific ave. I was turning onto pacific coming from 1st street ( turning right) and there is a part that is slightly raised cement part. Do I drive on it or what? I did not and it was a very awkward turn. Does anyone know?

It's a curb, and no, you don't drive on it. Keep those wheels on the street.

Okay thank you, I won’t drive on it but it was a very hard turn. The truck in front of me did not drive on it either and he ended up in the on coming traffic lane. I am sure he was not sure what to do either.

Can’t quite tell from the pic, but with how low it is it’s not somewhere I’d be especially interested in being as a pedestrian either!

It’s maybe to accommodate longer vehicles such as semi trailers when they’re turning.

Our thoughts as well...for longer trucks, etc. that would need that extra space for turning safely.

okay, but it is still confusing when you turn because it is not something you expect to see.

That is a horrible turn, it’s very tight. Once the snow hits it will be even worse.

It’s a very awkward turn. I’ve watched many people turn into the wrong lane or drive over the curb. A few stopped in the road in confusion.. cause that’s smart. Cant imagine it’ll be any better when snows covering road from curb.

Of what I've seen, people on Rosser Ave. East who turn north on 1st st immediately double lane change onto 1st st so they can turn left onto Pacific. That's going to be a problem once we get some snow and ice.  
 
In my opinion, they should never of reconnected Pacific Ave with 1st st. or just have it so you can only exist from Pacific Ave. to 1st st.

I assumed it was put in for the buses that may be going to 8th st, or semis making a delivery, similar to the gradual curbs in the round about and they do need that room if they are going to use that exit but imo it would have been better to leave it wide. It makes it awkward for cars and as bus/semi driver i dont find it any better so i cant see the advantage. You can see from the overhead view that it isn't a walkway or bicycle path so as a car i would say your road is the blacktop portion but if you drive one the cement part no biggy since its meant for heavy vehicles

dislike that corner. It is just odd the way they did it with that cement curb and I can see where it may be interesting once we have snow and ice and that curb gets hidden. I don't suppose it matters to me, as my SUV won't have a problem even if I do misjudge and run over the curb, but for someone in a small, low car it might not be so problem free. I don't know if it is really meant to accommodate a big truck? Who puts in a curb in an effort to accommodate a bigger vehicle? Why not just leave it all as street of that is the case? A truck can certainly turn onto a wide street. I think the intention was to make it look....pretty....fancy even? If so-that would be a fail.

There would have been no need to reconnect Pacific to 1st street if they had just returned Rosser and Princess to 2-way traffic between 1st and 6th streets. (Yes, I know that those two streets have been one-ways for decades, but I don't see the need, especially east of 6th)

i do it almost daily and legally as i know the rules of the road and i have no issues so why should i have to reroute myself because others have no clue what to do?? it is cockeyed design wise to say the least but if you take your time and stay on the pavement like you would anywhere unless on the gravel roads it should be fine. but then again so many travelling down residential streets think they can and do travel in the oncoming lane when they have something in their own lane...brilliance lol

The turn onto Pacific was completely forgotten about when designing the bridge. Any logical person can see the design is done by idiots who were called back to put the roadway in and couldn’t figure out how to incorporate it into the bridge properly. Our mayor should have been on their cases the instant Pacific wasn’t in on the initial bridge design.
