Just before the last resort of tearing out the stairs carpet I was wondering if anybody else had some super carpet cleaner ideas? Ground in dirt from years of renters have proven impossible to get out so far with basic commercial cleaners. I saw one with Ajax and oxi clean along with rubbing alcohol and dawn mixed together. Can’t seem to find Ajax or I would give it a try. Any other ideas are welcome.

Spray nine. Spray on the spot scrub it in with a brush with stiff bristle . Then sponge the area with a dry clothe. Let dry and vacuum after a few times and repeat if it is still a little dark.

Sorry Roger spray nine didn’t do it. Made it darker if anything. Going to require a professional cleaning mixture. But thanks for your suggestion.

Barrie wood carpet cleaning is the way to go. I have used them over the years and they are far better than any home recipe, or any rented carpet cleaner.  
 
They have impressed me with the difference they make and honestly I found their price to be very reasonable, I was expecting to pay a lot more.

Try Folex. You can get it at Canadian tire and home hardware.

When doing badly stained stairs in the past have just used a purchased cleaner and soaked/scrubbed with a hand held brush. Then spent much time with a "green machine" sucking the mixture out.  
 
But agree, I would hire Barry Woods and see what he can do before ripping it out.

As a contractor, I had a carpet installer for a number of years and he used lighter fluid. (Never lit it though).
