I know that the delivery people are busy right now with all the online ordering and all. But is it too much to as for them not to leave a package out in the open where it can easily swiped (like right on the edge of your step). They use to at least try to put out of passer byes eyes and put in a corner, or behind something.  
Also a ring of the doorbell would be nice. i am lucky that I decided to look outside about 1 am as there was a an expensive package waiting... out in the open.... on the edge of my doorstep.....

I agree. At the beginning of the pandemic rules when they had to just start leaving packages instead of waiting for the door to be answered they would at least ring the doorbell and put the package out of sight. Now, they don’t even ring the doorbell and they just toss the package anywhere. We haven’t been able to rely on the delivery date on the tracking info as the demand on delivery increases, so it would be nice if there were at least some warning so items don’t go missing.

I have two packages that have been "out for delivery" since Dec 29th. Does this mean they are riding around in someone's van? How does it take that long?

"out for delivery" I'm not sure anyone knows what it means anymore. I waited almost 10 days for a package that was listed as "out for delivery" in December.  
 
I just ordered something today that I couldn't buy locally. I'll see how this one goes.

On 23rd Dec. Canada post had at least 100 semi trailer loads of mail sitting in their Winnipeg facility.

I think everyone who has a package left on the doorstep should contact the seller and advise them of the situation, maybe they are not aware that this has become standard practice with the delivery companies.  
Mail everywhere is delayed at present, I'm awaiting a letter from Florida that was posted 22nd. Nov.

I saw a post where packages are in the hands of shipping gods when they have left the shipper.  
 
I had a parcel shipped (larger box but not heavy) from B.C. on Dec 1 and was out for delivery until delivered on Dec 31. Pre Covid this company's shipments were here in 5 days.  
I had supplies shipped in an envelope from California was here in less than 2 weeks going through customs.  
 
Size of parcel the problem or just the luck of the draw.  
 
Canada post has been overwhelmed with online shipping, employees calling in sick which they are supposed to do if they are sick so they are short staffed. There has been some bad weather causing delays. Our post office has also had their hours cut.  
 
Stressful times for everyone.
