Us as Tax payers makes me sick of what is going on .
Julie Payette : As a former governor-general, she’s entitled to an annual pension of nearly $150,000.

And she’s entitled to claim up to $206,000 a year – for life and even six months after – to cover expenses incurred as a result of continuing responsibilities related to her former office.
That's just tip of the ice berg !!!

Its the same with MP pensions, they only have to serve 6 years and they are eligible for a pension for life, couple that with the other benefits like office expenses and fraudulent housing claims.

And we wonder why our politicians are more than happy to let us squabble away between ourselves over minor issues, imagine the outrage if we all woke up one day rallied around government waste and corruption lol

I have worked for the provincial government for over 20 years and can say I have seen hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted on stupidity. Some is due to government policy and procedure, others is just greed and self entitlement. Others are due to the procurement process, the government gets into a contract where they have to purchase from 1 specific vendor and then the vendor raises the prices to crazy prices.

I won't throw anybody under the bus by telling you where I have worked but will provide first had examples.

Office chairs = $900 per chair

Specific vendor contracts = buying items from a vendor who is the purchaser in-law relation. (company didn't even sell the item but became the middle man who sold us the item at a cost)

Ideas that would save tens of thousands of dollars but would cost money up front was denied because it is not in this years budget. (they made us purchase plain post it notes instead of color and took away water coolers instead to save money.

Staff expensing wine and booze as part of meal allowance.

Staff getting a vehicle for travel and then using it for 24 hours and returning it empty so the tax payer foots the gas bill.

I could write a fricken book on this garbage.

Yes, I have brought this to the attention of those that matter and it was either, this is the protocol we have to follow to purchase, mind your own business, there is nothing I can do about it, thats not my job, etc.

It is frustrating as hell but it my experience, if you dont' abuse it waste the money, somebody else will.

This is exactly why I would love to see more privatization! Stop the waste and save some money.
The people that follow the rules and don't waste are told to mind your own business or you won't last long here!
It is never going to end as long as it is still happening at the top levels!

Having seen the mess that is PG&E and other privatized utilities, i'de rather we rationally tackle the systemic stupidity than throw the baby out with the bathwater. Because privatization is NOT going to be beneficial for us.

Having browsed Wealth Simples "Utility" listings, it's striking how many power companies are on there (like Con Ed, Duke Energy, PG &E and Hydro One). Something tells me that they likely won't have the rates that we do.

Kind of a problem where there is no Company B. Say what you will about broadband duopolies, but at least its a 2ed choice to MAYBE not have garbage service.

As for paying political pensions . . . I can't say that I personally take issue with this. Coverage for life for a short term stint . . . Okay, that is a bit much. However, I'm willing to overlook a generous allocation for many years of dedicated public service. Scandals or not.

After all, who am I to nit pick. If we let many of Trudeau's naysayers have their way, the man would be in jail for life. There is no winning the debate of politically polarized hive minds.

It galls me the amount of money wasted on personal expense accounts, jobs created to do someone a 'favour', millions wasted on unused real estate, surveys and estimates. Vehicle, travel and entertainment expenses as well as clothing, office decor, unnecessary renos. The list is endless. If anyone wants to see how this city wasted taxpayer money to a level of complete disregard all they would have to do is research the 'quest' for the e911 site maybe 15 years ago. Don't forget to check out the price tags for the estimates and surveys (of all the possible locations) and property procured.

If you write the book I will provide the preface as I speak from firsthand knowledge as well.

When has government ever been truly held accountable, oh sure someone might get a slap on the wrist or transferred to another department or posting within the union but how often are they outright terminated or held to account personally ?

The government would have a much easier time dealing with instances of failure of contract when they are at arms length, they would have the power to award the contract to another group if a private contractor mismanaged things as bad as our politicans do.

You mention care homes so I assume you have experience with them, do you honestly believe the government would do a better job running them ?

Were they always private or did government control them at some point and contract it out ?

What shady department did you work in?
Booze can’t be claimed.
And the claimable rates for is less than 10 bucks for a lunch and less than 16 bucks for supper. How many drinks would that buy anyways with any actual food?

I can't remember what the rates where for dinner and lunch at the time but they it was common to have lunch provided by the place you were visiting so the dinnersupper budget was used creatively.

I have seen 2 people spend 2 hours trying to order 30 stamps, ($130 in wages for $30 in stamps because we had to purchase them a certain way and it was over $25 so could not use petty cash)

I have seen people order equipment and then take it home (my boss was the most guilty of this which opened it up for everybody else)

People so useless they are stripped of ALL job responsibility and do nothing because it takes 2 years of paper work on average to fire a government employee. (employee surfed internet for over $65,000 a year and they just hired another person to do the job)

Staff take company cell phones out west on 2 week vacation. Staff using long distance to call other countries on personal calls.

Have seen staff get caught watching porn on regular work and overtime work hours. (nothing happened)

Seen staff charge other business to do what we do, and then bring it to work to fix it and get paid from both parties. (side job and regular wage)

The shaboop-in list is endless, shall I go on. Yeah, booze were pushed through, it was questioned and the secretary was told to push it through. (some employees get more leverage when your shaboop-in the boss. LOL)

As for private vs government, yes both have waste. Difference is government = not my money so I don't care. Private = that's coming out of somebodies pockets so they should care)
