Photo in Brandon Sun
8/28/2008 at 9:49 AM
I have actually waited to make this post. I was waiting to see if anyone who reads the Brandon Sun would make comment about a photo that appeared in Mondays paper dated August 25th. The photo in question was on the second page and featured a 9 year old boy sitting on some rocks in the Assiniboine River in front of the raging broken 3rd Street dam. Now does anyone out there see anything wrong with this picture? In Manitoba this year alone we have had 8 tragic drowning deaths that is apparently more than all of last year. With that being known why would Brandon Sun take such a photo and print it? Where are the parents of this boy? As far as I know the parents must consent to the photo to appear in the paper? I just wonder if I am the only one who thinks this is risky behavior and not one we should glorify as a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I am sure the personnel who have the task of recovering bodies of drowning victims have much better ways to make memories of a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Anyone got any comments about this photo?
