Out walking the dog today, along Pacific that runs parallel with the railroad tracks and noticed that all the vegetation is being torn out. What’s going on? Thank you.

does it look like they're getting the ground ready for developing? It's been awhile but isn't Sneath company going to be building something along Pacific avenue? I'm sure Sneath bought some property along that avenue.

There was talk of building a permanent bicycle path alongside Pacific ave. A temporary one was set up last summer season along the north side. Maybe that's what is happening.

Do you mean around 17th Street?  
They just demolished a strip mall to make way for the 18th street bridge expansion.

Tracks run parallel to Pacific and that’s where the vegetation is being torn out. Sign says the sidewalk is closed. Small parking lot there...use to be able to walk your golf clubs across the tracks there.

Still not completely sure why vegetation close to the tracks is being removed.....underground cables?

Clearing out the excess reeds n stuff so that drainage ditch is ready for water this spring. Judging by the amount of piles of growth, it hasn’t been done in years.

City is simply cleaning out the ditch along the tracks between 26th and 34th street. The City was ripped into pretty bad in the media last fall about improper maintenance of the land drainage system in this area of town which caused notable backups and basement damage last fall. The City has grubbed out the vegetation, I hope they go further and clean it up nicer but its a start.

A little closer look in this pic from yesterday... no parking signs went up in that little parking lot as of today, so guessing things are about to get interesting:

While we are on the topic of this little corner, what happened to the City or others building a new parking lot to replace the one they are removing on the south side of the tracks? There was conversation on this item a few years ago but since then no one has mentioned what is going on beyond a new crossing and condos being built. This area is going to be gong show for the next 2 years and no parking for people trying to use the bike paths. There is nothing in the construction drawings that the City released showing a new parking lot to the south. There is no plan for additional parking on the north side of the tracks beyond a new parking lot for the golf course (which wont be cleaned up for a few years probably). This existing little parking lot is normally packed and full for people using the bike paths. This is a very busy area and there has been no info from anyone on what do people do if they want to drive to this spot to use the bike path, where do they park? Do people just randomly start parking on the grass on the south side of pacific avenue or what?!? Seems like this was pushed through city council with no thought towards a parking lot for the general public

We’ll miss the parking lot too. Great place to park and walk the trail into Riverheights. I guess park on Rec Centre side eventually?... but like you say, parking will eventually be at a premium at the property!
