I am looking at renting an apartment in downtown Brandon above a business nearish to the town centre, and would like to hear some feedback from people who live in the area.  
 
For people that live in the downtown, what is your honest opinion of living in the area? Do you often feel unsafe? Have you experienced lots of crime or vandalism?  
 
No matter where you live there is crime, break-ins, vandalism, etc, but just want to know if you think it is worse here. Thank you!

We rented above the H&R block for about 3 years albeit in 2007 to 2010. It was ok then but you have to be mindful of your area. Use common sense as you would anywhere . Would you go out on the southwest side of Brandon if there were a bunch of strangers in the street? Probably not. Do most of your business during the early evening or day. Although it never bothered me to go out anytime. Downtown has changed here as well as every downtown in North America. It is usually associated with marginalized folks, banks, and sketchy areas. Use common sense!

I have never lived downtown, however I’ve spent my whole 30 years of life here and often hung out downtown as a young one. Having said that there is a reason I’ve never lived downtown. It also really depends where exactly downtown there are a few worse parts then others, but over all I wouldn’t live there myself. I do get it might be more affordable to what your looking for, I would stay in the east end before downtown but I would still stay clear of both if I could. But it is also like previously posted be cautious and try to only go out during the day time if possible and I’m sure you’ll be fine!

I live downtown, and a lot of what you hear is just conjecture. There are problems, but none that I haven't experienced living in other areas of the City.  
 
My biggest problem is the donkeys that think downtown is a drag strip for their dumb sounding cars. It's not, so relax.

Lived down here for 7 years and honestly have had no issues. Car is always outside, we do have a well lit lot/back ally area.

Has become an unsavoury area at night and sometimes during the day.  
The security at the Town Centre do a great job during the day keeping troublesome events from happening. But there's often only one of them. Hard to be 2 places at once.  
At night that area has drug deals go down, stalking people at the banks, intoxicated individuals etc.  
2 active drinking hotels nearby doesn't help.
