what we do for a little entertainment for humans despite the cost to the environment around us...

Was thinking that about Brandon as seems like other smaller town are doing fireworks. But Brandon never seems to know for sure. I guess we could all stay at home like we have been doing for about a year and a half. Same as no outdoor concerts as they have loud music. Wow. I hope they do have fireworks let people enjoy the 20 or so minutes it lasts for. Makes people smile and lately we need to smile more and start enjoying things again.

Alot of families are grieving the loss of all the children/ancestors that are being recovered around canada right now, I'm not sure if celebrations for canada day are what's needed  
 
There's some good about canada, don't get me wrong. But this canada day should be about reflecting, not celebrating.. there's no pride in genocide

Would you appreciate someone having fireworks and partying while you're grieving the loss of YOUR children? Think about that for awhile. This isn't just one person we're talking about here.

They announced awhile ago that the celebrations will be virtual again I believe, which would mean no fireworks again this year. Hopefully next year we will be able to have them again, and celebrate together.  
We are just going to celebrate at home in our own yard, this year again.

Canada is one of the best countries in the world. I'm 8th gen canadian and will be celebrating with family at a BBQ!

For you to acknowledge the pain and suffering and proudly say you're celebrating anyways let's the rest of the world know you have a colonial mindset.  
 
I would hope for anyone who's still celebrating would atleast educate themselves on how canada was really founded and reflect. Have a great canada day, 8th Gen canadian.

I'm a 10th generation Canadian (and I'm at the tail end of that generation - at least 13 generations exist from my earliest European ancestors, not including my Indigenous ones from my Metis ancestors), and we will not be flying our flag this year.  
 
Canada is a great country in many ways, but it was built on the back of genocide. Our prosperity came at the expense of the original peoples of this land. It takes only a cursory knowledge of history to realize the things that happened were to facilitate colonization.  
 
I don't feel much like celebrating this year. As both a colonizer and a Catholic, we need to grieve with our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and take the next steps with them. They shouldn't be expected to walk this path alone.  
 
Canada will be great again someday. But not today.

We are capable of celebrating Canada Day while also remembering those kids.  
 
If someone doesn't want to celebrate, fine you can do that. But demeaning and telling others they shouldn't celebrate is just wrong.

I moved to Brandon from the UK nearly 18 years ago. Took Citizenship. Canada Day means a lot to me. I WILL be celebrating Canada Day.

As I've said before. If you're not a part of the solution, you are the problem. I never said cancel canada day forever. But for one year? This year especially? Shame on anyone who isn't willing to take some time out of their day to reflect..  
Canada was founded on the blood of first nations people. We came to their country (turtle island) and destroyed their population (about 120 million) and then colonized the rest. Another tidbit of information. We abolished slavery and founded residential schools the SAME year. What does that tell you??

As others have stated, you can take time out of your day to reflect, and still celebrate Canada day. It’s no different than putting up Christmas lights before Nov. 11. You can still acknowledge and celebrate Remembrance Day and all that it means while at the same time celebrate the holidays (and for the record, yes, I put my Christmas lights up before Nov 11). Does everyone agree? No. But does that make it wrong? No. How about you do you, and I’ll do me, ok??

Let’s just cancelled the year then hey Mrs. Worme. At what point do we stop being sad or happy to live in Canada?

As I said before, ignorance is bliss. The world won't change if no one stands up for what's right. I don't have the energy to argue with so many people, this is why indigenous people have such a hard time and stay silent about the mistreatment. Hoping one day you all change your perspective and open your hearts. Have a good evening.

I have educated myself about this through research and talking with people who know more than I do. And you know what, it’s absolutely horrible. I can’t even begin to imagine how those families felt, what the children went through. My heart breaks for all of them. That being said, it makes me grateful that my kids are here, that I can see and talk to them. So I will be celebrating with my family on Canada Day. I’m sure we will discuss this and even take a moment to mourn all the children that were lost. I agree with the others that said if you want to celebrate Canada Day, do it. And if you don’t want to, don’t. But don’t tell me I’m wrong if I do

is with people and white privelage? Natives can go to school and college and whatever any other color of human has done. Sadly yes there are some natives targeted, and that's not right. You seem to have hate for others in your heart if they don't do what you think they should do on Canada Day. Maybe talk to some of the chiefs who spend the $ and don't give it to those on the reserves. On Canada Day I will reflect for a moment those kids who were killed along with kids who are abused and homeless and in sex traffic stuff and killed,and millions of babies aborted on a continuous basis and for all of those who lost their lives to covid. I won't ever apologize for being born in this country and raised as a white Canadian. Some one always has to pull the stupid political correctness crap and it's sad because there won't be any changes til people respect each other and get along even when we disagree or don't like something or different opinion. We used to get along like that. We all piss and poop and bleed red, so why the white privelage crap? Plenty of natives who have made it big as there are native awards, and who are very talented and gifted. Political correctness is screwing us up and creating more divisions.

I never meant to get emotionally charged when defending my views, i never intended to come off as " if you celebrate canada day you're foolish or a bad person" more or less, my heart breaks and I'm not the only one.. let's have some respect for those who are grieving. This isn't one child, there are thousands and thousands who are still undiscovered. .

The whole world stopped when we lost those boys from Humboldt. Why isn't the same happening for these children? ... that's all I'll say on this. It's not fair how we're treating these people. And more people need to stand up for them. So I won't apologize for standing up and speaking my mind. I will not be celebrating canada day, and I'll continue to advocate for what i believe in. Equality, and respect. Freedom. None of which first nations people have yet.

How about we all do our own thing and spend Canada day as we please while we remember all of the children. The children taken from First Nation families and their pain and suffering, the children list to immigrant families as they settled this great country many of them fleeing persecution and poverty in far away lands. We would also do well to remember the victims of covid 19 lost over the recent months. Enjoy the holiday that is Canada day , look to a bright future and reflect on mistakes made in the past that cannot be reversed .
