Seeing that we have no news media in Brandon, can anyone tell how much snow we had last night and this morning. We lost our tv station, radio station are all pre recorded, can't find out what is going in town.

The Environment Canada website always has the prior day stats. They will sometimes put out summary bulletins. We got 16 cm yesterday. They will sometimes put out summary bulletins if there's significant events. You can access those at https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/weathersummaries_e.html  
 
Otherwise, we listen to CBC a lot. The local reporter, Riley Laychuk, does a decent job. We also have a subs:cription to the Brandon Sun, who updates their website through the day. We get a Saturday paper with 7 day digital access.  
 
I hope everyone who is concerned about local media has a digital subs:cription to support the Sun.  
 
We also rely on sources like ebrandon and Twitter, especially following hashtags like #bdnmb and following certain groups/people like the City of Brandon and Counsellor Shaun Cameron, who is awesome and great at getting info out relevant to everyone not just his ward.

I’ve been a Brandon Sun subscriber for 34 years. I believe that it’s part of being a good, informed citizen.  
I always admired the Sun for remaining fairly neutral politically. It was a good source for unbiased news.  
 
Lately, the editorials have become so “left leaning” that I’m finding it difficult to read.  
I’m going to cancel my subs:cription. Not sure where else a person can receive factual, unbiased news. Does such a thing exist anymore?

Editorials by their very nature often lean either to the right or left of the political spectrum. If you refuse to read one because it does not agree with your political leaning then you are just as guilty as the writer. It’s called “confirmational bias”. People generally don’t want to hear/read things that contradict what they already believe, opting instead to only take in news/opinions with which they already agree. The media companies know this, that’s why they lean to the right or left - in order to satisfy their particular audience and therefore rake in large profits through advertising. It is, after all, a business and profit is the ultimate motivation. Absolutely perfect example is CNN and Fox. They only spout off what their audience already wants to hear and as a result the right stays with Fox, the left with CNN. And there, quite simply, is the primary reason for the huge gulf between the right and left that probably won’t get solved. It’s not as bad in Canada……yet.

I’m aware that editorial pieces and news articles “should” be separate.  
 
The editorial tone of a newspaper is directly related to and reflected in the news story perspectives printed within.  
 
I simply believe that the Sun is less “middle of the road” than it used to be. I’ll most likely continue to subscribe to the Sun because I really enjoy the local community stories!
