I retired this summer and decided to volunteer at the rink. I have been helping with flooding and clearing snow. It looks like I picked a bad year to help out with all the snow we have been getting, but as a kid I was at the rink every night. Kept me and others out of trouble.  
It seems that the rink I’m at only has 3 people coming out to help. I’m the only one that is not working so the others are already putting in 40 hrs at there jobs. If your are retired or has a few spare hours in a week to help out I’m sure any community centre could use some help.

Community Centers always need help ! Even if you only have a few hours here & there. If you take your child skating, help a few other kids tie their skated.  
If you see snow on the ice , shovel some off.  
If you have a pair If skates that your child gas outgrown, drop them off.  
Anything you can do is appreciated!
