Has anyone driven on the hwy lately? Just wondering how it is on hwy 10 north from Brandon. Thanks.

Aren't good in any direction.. they just closed highway between Brandon and Griswold

#1 is closed from SK border to Brandon again. It's a skating rink and all the other highways in the area are as well or partially ice covered at best. Speaking from experience this morning and not just based on the road map, as some of those highways haven't been updated since lunch time yesterday.

Don’t travel if you can avoid it. Local gravel roads have not been Plowed in a week and are impassable. Highway number 1 is ice and snow covered and unsafe.

What are the road conditions Brandon to portage this morning?
I have something to pick up at the Walmart in portage today …….if anyone is coming to Brandon from Portage….I would pay you for the item pickup

Hwy 1 eastbound was mostly clear in the afternoon Brandon to Portage
Hwy 1 westbound was icy conditions Portage to Brandon pretty much the entire way

Not sure why.

The information is not kept up to date even for road closures which is not good and gives a false impression on driving conditions.

More accurate on ebrandon discussions.

Hopefully they fix this sooner than later.

Example the day of that last storm Douglas to Brandon only one lane traffic and very poor condition yet MH said clear.

The last closures never were on the map.

Manitoba 511 is only updated when a Highways employee assesses the road condition. It is not real-time. If you click on the highway you are wondering about, it will give the date and time it was updated. The little 'quote box' of print info on the screen shot ManitobaNerd posted is what pops up when the highway is clicked - you can see from the screen shot that Highway 1 was closed, and that info was updated at 536am Jan 22.

Fact is the closure was not on the map AT all when it happened.

The accuracy has been very terrible this winter usually accurate.

Many times it said good and it was awful.

Many times sections closed and it didn’t report this. As closure is a RCMP decision absolutely no excuse for it not to be on map. No highway employee is required.

When you get on a terrible winter road there is no way to turn around. You just hope you make it before you get killed.

The storms affecting our roads don't just come out of nowhere. If a storm is moving in we are well aware. When a road report says "Travel not recommended" I take it as stay home. Others will choose to go anyway. I think people need to stay aware before they find themselves stranded. Any winter plans out of town are tentative for me based on the weather.

In the past few years a great many experienced people left the department for good. Now it is led and operated by many new and inexperienced people. Some times it is difficult to find competent employees to fill critical positions. Not much hope for improvement in the near future. But don't worry, they can only get better.
