    Is it legal that larger rental companies ask for SIN on their application forms

    Just wondering if that is normal practice for larger companies to ask for SIN in their rental application forms. And if that is legal.

    If that is o.k. for larger companies then should be o.k. for landloards that have one rental property to do the,same credit check on the application. Is that correct?

    You should never give your S.I.N. in order to rent a property, and the company has no right to ask that information. Your S.I.N. is for government services, banking, and employment. Guard it carefully.

    Employers once you are employed  
    Banking  
     
    That’s why you don’t get cards now as less chance of someone finding out your SIN

    likely using it to do a credit check before granting tenancy but if that’s the case they should be explaining that as it would affect your credit score. I can’t turnkey of any other reason to get your sinn
