Rivers new rail service.
9/9/2008 at 9:13 AM
Rivers is getting ready for a grand opening of its' newly restored rail station.
The official ribbon cutting is set for today at noon today.
Restoration Committee Co-Chair Ralph Springer says this is a big deal for the town and could help to develop the local economy.
Springer says there is a sense of pride in the town over these projects' development and hopes this is only the beginning.
Passenger service was transferred to the community from Brandon North a few months back.
This is a great day for the Rivers community, and for those in favor of Railroad Station restoration,
but for the Via traveler it will be another $95.00 on the price of their rail ticket in each direction for Taxi Service, this is not a good thing for local tourism or Brandon rail travelers,
but Mayor Dave and city council do not agree with me because they authorized the move last Winter.
