The mosquito count is off the scale, when will the city spray so it is safe to go outdoors again, without being attacked?

This winter was brutal. I hope they spray quickly so we can all enjoy the rest of the summer. Don’t put it off like other years..

Seems a little early, I could be wrong, but I mostly remember them being out full strong when July came in.

Nvm, i did some more digging and found this years counts.

Looks like the counts are low. Not sure why they have those locations for trap counts. I meam, I can understand the BU location, many people are out and about in that area. Cemetary, not so much, imo.

Down by McKenzie seeds and my yard are baaaaaaad. Cannot go outside without being eaten.

The city mosquito count looks totally unrealistic, we are getting eaten alive!

Mosquitoes in west end Rosser terrible. Let's get rid of them immediately. Such a short summer as is.

Oh if only.

Let's be realistic though. We all know these things take time. It's not happening any time soon. The last year they sprayed I remember waiting about a month.

I agree with everyone the city needs to act on this asap. Summer is way to short. They also should have been using larvicide in all the standing water. Is it government mandated on trap count before they can fog?

The trap counts are getting higher! Getting closer to fogging counts!

Also was excited to see a dragonfly around my house the other day too

I am tempted to build a bat box to eat mosquitos as well, but need to do more research on that....and will it even work in the city...

Useful news is that going by trap counts at the link below, gotta be high chance that Trap 2 is going to be the 2000+ to trigger a fogging the next time they read it today and tomorrow (if all traps dont average 1000 which might even be possible?). Question is, how quickly can they report and act if the count taken today shows that it's time:

With all the water we’ve had this year, everyone knew the skeeters were gonna be awful. I wish the city was more proactive when it came to things instead of waiting around.

Depending on where you are, there are definately bats. I'm in Riverheights and I very occasionally stumble upon them hunting at night.

Corner of our backyard has 100% accuracy record of predicting mosquito explosions within three days or less. Things went from annoying yesterday to close your eyes and mouth and swat away until you get to the other side today. You’ve be warned

A little disappointing from a transparency point of view. Readings were either taken on Sunday and Monday or they weren’t. If they were taken, hard to imagine why they aren’t posted a day later. If the trend from the prev week continued and we are into fog territory, potentially missing out on a valuable week in a short summer. Can only hope that if a decision needs to be made based on the numbers that those who make the decision already have the numbers and they just haven’t been shared publicly yet while they prepare a press release?

Going by the weather, if trap numbers justify it it looks like conditions are fog-friendly as soon as tomorrow and in time to cover the city before the weekend?

Apparently I need to check the same city Twitter account a little more often that I posted a link to yesterday in another thread

Haven't seen the debate to know what numbers the decision was based on, but Thanks to council and anyone else involved for moving on this…

At yesterday's regular council meeting, City Council passed a motion to begin city-wide fogging for nuisance mosquitoes immediately. Weather dependent, fogging will proceed overnight on June 22 and June 23 beginning after 10 p.m.

Yesterday, things were surprisingly tolerable in a central backyard, mosquito-wise. Though there was a small firepit and 2 coils (the black kind from Canadian TIre) going at the time. If that was all the coils, I'm very impressed at the effectiveness.

For most part I'd say it's been the desired effect in South End. Bad corner of our yard still had a holdover swarm, but other than that not a creature with an especially established population today!

Is there anywhere you can go look to see if you are in a buffer zone for these pesky mosquitoes? Seemed like the day after they sprayed it was much better out in the yard but now the backyard is bad again. Doesn’t seem fair that if you want to register to be in a buffer zone you get what you want but if you want to have the spraying done for where you live you don’t get what you want if people around you want to register for the buffer zone. Where is the fairness in that???? So not fair.

Hi. I know they sprayed here the first night (South of Victoria) because I heard it go by 2 times.
But I still have lots of mosquitos biting me in my yard.

Mosquitoes are always an issue fogging or not
Sometimes I think in our desire to make our lives easier we expect things to be perfect. First that is impossible and we have to take our own steps such as remove any standing water, keep grass cut etc.
Secondly don’t forget mosquitoes and bugs are the main food source for animals like birds. Eliminate them and no more birds.
Humans are making this planet near impossible to live on. Maybe its time to rethink our self entitled views and adapt better to the natural environment
