I noticed today that the speed limit from the airport to #1 highway has been reduced to 80 km. What’s that about?

Part of that area has always had slower section. Add in the not very legal approach for way way they needed it slowed down before more accidents happened.

It’s been reduced for a bit now. Assuming you mean the area near the Wayway gas bar. That’s exactly why it was reduced. Too many people in a hurry and can’t wait for cars to turn off into the gas bar or others turning out causing near collisions. I heard there was plans for a service road, but don’t expect it anytime soon.

Instead of the gas bar using the service road to the north-west to make the highway safe for traffic turning in, I think it was easier to just reduce the speed limit there.

Lot easier safer access to turning to and from airport.
Was 80 back in December when we flew out.
Makes sense to be 80 just like on travelling on #1 when travelling east and west .

Making the highway safe shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Some simple math will tell you that you are only loosing maybe a second or 2. A car traveling 100Km/h takes 36 seconds to travel 1 km. A car doing only 80Km/h and going that same 1 km takes 45 seconds. 9 seconds of our busy day to keep the roads safe.

They have been fighting over it for a while now. Essentially the gas bar doesn't want to lose direct highway access.

While 80km/h is better than it was before it still gets crazy there at times. The province either needs to push ahead and get the service road re-built and cut off the highway access or capitulate and build bypass/turning lanes asap.

The gas bar should never been allowed to open without having a proper, safe intersection in the first place. This is just another blunder Brandon and area has, The Corral Centre and area being one of them. As it is, Highway 10 from Brandon to atleast Minnedosa should of been twinned LONG ago.

Just remember, roads don't kill, bad and aggressive drivers is what the problem is. The RCMP has all but abandoned patrolling Manitoba highways.
