Looking for opinions on chest or upright freezers, what are the pros and cons ?  
Preently have chest apartment size, but wish to upgrade to somewhat larger .  
Thanks in advance.

Will never by chest freezer again, the upright freezer-so easy to find everything. You can see where everything is no digging to the bottom of freezer.  
Also takes up less space.

We use chest freezers as they hold way more than upright ones.

Agree. Chest freezers have way more capacity for the floor space. You have to keep them tidy and organized though.

Chest freezers are more reliable than upright, cost less as well.  
If you buy a chest freezer and keep it in one spot it will last decades.

We get sides of beef and I use the good reusable bags from Sobey’s to organize it.

If you have an upright you run the chance of it not closing right and than having issues later.

We have had a chest...never moved it for 48 years and still working fine. Also have an upright and yes door sometimes does not seal however rarely. Also with an upright you can get freezer burns on meat.

We have a 21ft upright. Never buying a chest freezer again.  
Easier to organize. Easy to defrost and clean.  
My wife is only 5’1”. And she doesn't have to go deep sea diving to find things on the bottom.

I had a smaller chest freezer for a lot of years and it never failed, can't say the same for my memory when I forgot what was on the bottom and it went to waste multiple times.  
 
Went with an upright a few years ago and couldn't see myself going back to a chest freezer, sure they are more expensive and maybe not as reliable but the simplicity of just opening the door and seeing everything will save me in the long run.

It appears there are pros and cons between easy acess and convience. versus long liveity and space.

We’ve had our upright 22 years, same spot, never any issues with door seal or anything else.

If space is a concern the upright takes less floor space. We have had our chest style for decades. Stuff always finds its way to the bottom, so it needs to be rotated. It seems there are hiding places in both styles.
