Hey all. Just noticed they chalked my tired on my car on the street infront of my house today. Has been parked since the first snow a few days ago and have been using my partners AWD SUV instead of my FWD hatchback.  
 
Its registered and in good clean running condition, currently just still kinda snowed in infront and behind.  
 
No idea on the rules here on how much I need to move it, what they can actually do, ect. Any info apprecated.

You’ll get a ticket if you don’t move it.  
Take a picture of where it is now. Drive it around the block and park in a different spot and take another picture.

Awesome, went through the entire bylaw pfd to try to find something and this was far more concise and easy.

35. Unless specifically required by other provisions of this By-law, or by the direction of an Officer to do otherwise, it shall be an offence for any person to stop, stand or park, as follows:  
...  
t) a vehicle continuously at any one location on any City street for a period of more than fortyeight (48) hours without moving such vehicle through the nearest intersection:

Move your vehicle

Jack the car and rotate the chalked tire half a turn.

Can’t get out of snowed-in bays and streets, can’t even drive safely on main arteries, but by-law is out looking to ticket. Mind you those tickets may be keeping our property taxes from hitting 15%!!

Next year they will force everyone to clean their walkways nor get fined… it’s not like residential areas were even being plowed so how’s a person supposed to move? Oh well rub it off with snow

City of Brandon budget of over 140 million dollars, do really think that $20 ticket is going to help. It's not about the fine, it's about getting vehicles off the street so the plows can work and your neighbours do have to drive around a vehicle abandon for months at a time.

48 hours is so short. Lots of other cities are 3+ days. At least that way, someone could go away for a long weekend without having to find a non-street spot for their vehicle. Winnipeg is 10 days. I wonder why Brandon is so short.

I believe the 48 hour limit is year-round. And if the vehicle is parked at the curb, there’s no need to “drive around them.”

I settled in Brandon after life took me in many different ways. I loved living in Calgary at the time because there was high sentiment for the military community and loads of civic pride. We did our sidewalks without question because it benefitted our kids on their way to school, helped the mailman and the meter readers do their job, made the way safe for other citizens ands the handicapped most importantly. We had a seniors home on the block.  
We don't have that civic pride here in Brandon. Nobody cares if their actions affect others. Few people pick up their dog poop, let alone care for others. Won't stop me from doing the right thing, tho...

Yeah, if your car's parked legally and looking good, you're probably okay. But I'd double-check local rules just to be safe, you never know.

They chalked your tires to track how long your car's been parked. Moving it a bit might reset the timer.
