Enough with “High-end housing” already
1/12/2009 at 12:34 PM
I was listening to the mayor referring to the future development that might transpire on a section the city golf course. He was sceptical as to whether there is enough land available and would it be cost effective. He also stated perhaps it might be a good area to build more “high-end” housing. I was about call in because that just hit me the wrong way, unfortunately the program was over. How be we try just once to build more “affordable” housing in this city. Judging by the number of expensive new housing that has and is being built I would say enough already. With all the big talk about the economy and providing stimulus for people, I don’t get it. I remember remarking onetime to someone that they always seem to inordinately tax the “middle class” and what the reasoning was behind that strategy, to which they replied “well there are so many more of them”. Using that scenario then why not build for the masses instead of for the already overly catered to few. Everything is luxury this, luxury that, at this very time when we, the middle class, are bailing out the high end, high maintenance “private enterprise” our mayor is advocating the building of more “un-affordable” housing, to many in this city and elsewhere it doesn’t make sense . The bottom falls out for these guys and we pick up the pieces. Don’t do anything for me? Don’t come knocking at my door. As if I had a choice!
