5 Minute Patient Pick-up/Drop Off
3/23/2009 at 6:49 PM
Yes, that was me double-parked at the hospital today. Your look of disbelief was priceless. I'm glad you read my look accurately because it kept you safe in your car as you waited patiently for me. Did it irritate you because I put you behind schedule? At least you had something to drink while you waited. Sorry I inconvenienced you.
Oh wait, I was at the hospital trying to drop off/pick-up a patient in the 5 MINUTE PATIENT PICK-UP/DROP OFF! You were there getting coffee.
What is wrong with people? Can you not read the sign? If you want coffee, park your car, pay for parking and get your coffee.
I wait for you to move your car so I can drop off the patient. I help the patient into the hospital. Then I go park my car. I walk back to the hospital and get the patient to the appointment. Then I walk back to the car, PAY for parking and proceed to pick up the patient. You are there again. Oh no, it's not you, just someone who looks like you...with a coffee in his hand.
Oh, and a big thanks to the twit driver stopped ON the crosswalk at the hospital talking to another twit. Two twits. Never mind, I'll just walk around your car instead of using the recessed sidewalk. Then technically, I wouldn't be a pedestrian getting hit by a car ON a crosswalk. Twits with a capital T. Listen carefully, Sweetie-regardless of what you've been led to believe, the world does NOT revolve around you. Do not stop ON a crosswalk!
If you coffee lovers are well enough to walk into the hospital to get a coffee, chances are you are well enough to walk a few extra steps from the street or parking lot.
If you can afford a Timmy's, you can afford to pay for parking too.
Many may disagree but a patient is far more significant than someone needing a pizza fix. Fast food delivery drivers need another entrance to run their orders into the hospital. I don't care how fast you think you are.
Do you know how difficult it is for elderly people to get around? Trying desperately to breathe? Trying to keep some sense of independence behind a walker? Going to the hospital because of health-related issues? Accepting assistance only because they have to but not because they want to? Just wait until you are elderly.
I can only hope that the inconsiderate "kids" today experience the same inconsiderations when they are elderly and not so able-bodied. I won't be elderly for another 30-40 years but I'm already planning on spending some of my days sitting outside the hospital watching karma roll.
Please don't explain to me how my inconsiderate double-parking just exacerbates an ongoing problem of an inconsiderate society. I already know this. But damn, it felt good. So good in fact that I'm sure I will do it again. Double-parking was the nicest thing that I could do. The other ideas I had would have landed me in the slammer.
I don't care who you are-more precisely, who you THINK you are. If you can't comprehend consideration, consider this: society is going in the crapper and we're running low on asswipe.
