Discussions

A woodpecker hit our front window this evening and was still breathing when we arrived home. We assumed it was dead but as we got close you could see its chest going up and down. We called animal control but they were closed for the day. It is now resting on our deck (to keep away from neighbouring cats) in a pail filled with grass and some shelter.  
 
Does anyone know who to contact?  
If I call animal control they would likely put it down...right?  
Suggestions please.  
I know some might say it is just a bird but please give advice.
