CKX News keeps dropping the ball
4/30/2009 at 8:11 AM
I know that CKX is going off the air as of August 1st, unless buyers step up to purchase the station. My gripe with CKX is the newscasts. With the company going under, I'm surmising that CKX does not want to spend money chasing news stories. Instead we are treated to all the goings ons at the City council meetings and at all the Brandon School division meetings. Very boring 'news'. A few days ago, my sister-in-law called to ask if I had heard anything about a man falling into the Assiniboine River and being rescued by four men, so I watched CKX news to see what happened. Not even one mention of it,but there was the usual city council and school board coverage. Then I checked on eBrandon, where all the news is current, and I learned more here than what the supposed journalists at CKX could tell me.I know it's not the reporters' faults completely, as they have to have money to get them to and from news stories, and the owners do not want to pay for extra travel costs in their final few months of operation in our fair city. But when our news station does not report on things like people jumping/falling into rivers, and of brave people jumping in to save them, then it is time for us to switch the channel, and for CKX to close their doors.
