Saving our Heritage, Creating Housing and Building Community ... a proposal:
5/27/2009 at 10:45 AM
Today in the Brandon Sun is an article about the failure to secure funding for the preservation of the Prov. Ex Display on the Keystone grounds. The article also mentions the Strand and the possibility that it has been denied funding as well ...
My question is simply this - If Wpg can raise awareness and financial commitments for a sports team, why can't we the people of Brandon raise enough awareness AND MONEY to save these two buildings and what they represent to our history????
We've become pretty good around here at bitching and moaning about what's wrong in town - let's turn this energy around and instead join to save two important heritage buildings - AND - along the way, let's include in our initiative a grassroots movement to build and maintain affordable housing ...
The bottom line is - someone has to do something ... we need to decide who that someone is going to be ...
I say it will be YOU and I ... and we might as well start now ... Anyone else interested in trying to get a grassroots thing going to save Brandon's heritage AND create housing along the way????
The only reason it can't happen is because we've convinced ourselves it's too big and we're too little ... and that's nonsense ... every great social movement starts with one or two dedicated people ...
Come on ebrandonites, let's do this ...
