DELTA - Charges are pending against an off-duty RCMP officer after a motorcyclist was killed in a suspected drunk-driving crash Saturday night.
Delta Police say 21-year-old Orion Hutchinson died when his westbound motorbike hit an eastbound Jeep at 6th Avenue and Gilchrist Drive around 10:15 p.m.
Police at the scene of the crash demanded a breathalyser test from the driver of the Jeep, which he failed.

The Mountie, who has not been identified, has been released on a promise to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Jan. 15 on charges of impaired driving causing death and exceeding .08 blood-alcohol while driving. Global BC reported on its noon news hour that the officer was one of the Mounties involved in the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver International Airport last year.
Delta Police said the investigation is still under way.
"It will be some time before the investigation is concluded, at which point Delta Police investigators will review the file with the Crown prosecutors to determine what additional charges should be laid," said spokesman Const. Paul Eisenzimmer in a release.
Eisenzimmer referred all inquiries about the status of the off-duty officer to the RCMP.
In a release, RCMP confirmed an officer had been charged and said they were not involved in the crash investigation.
"An internal code-of-conduct investigation has been launched and the member has been suspended from duty," said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Tim Shields in the statement.
Shields said RCMP won't be releasing the officer's name until after he has been officially charged by Crown counsel. At a brief news conference Tuesday, he refused to answer questions about the crash itself, directing inquiries back to Delta Police. Shields said it was his understanding the officer was not at an RCMP event before the accident.
Very odd I tried to reply to the original posting but it doesn't allow me to
