electrical question

I have installed a bathroom fan in my sons bathroom, there is 2 14/2 wires rununing along the 2x6 stud, one going to the fan the other is live alll the time and do not know where it is coming from. My question is the other 14/2 wire is not live from the swtich so who ever wired it in the first place took the live black wire from the live wire and marred it with the black that was not and the fan is working 24/7 but when you turn the switch on the breaker blows, any ideas.
