I was so sad to hear that CKX is finally going off the air tonight. It's a bad day for Brandon and a bad day for the entire western Manitoba region. We still have our radio stations and thank goodness for Ebrandon, but losing our local television station is a major blow to our region.  
 
I can't believe that we haven't heard a peep out of Merv Tweed about this. Local media that is already established should be a major issue that, one would think, Merv would be chiming in on. Losing the station also means we lose 39 highly trained jobs in Brandon, and we also lose the ability to keep television advertising money in the community which has been the case for the past 54 years. We also lose television coverage and promotion of major events in Brandon and Western Manitoba. With all of the violence and serious issues facing Winnipeg (where all of the remaining stations in Manitoba are located), I find it hard to believe that television stations there will cover anything in Westman unless it involves a murder or serious crime.  
 
In a riding that gives so much support to the Conservative Party, I'd have thought that they would have at least tried to voice their opinion on behalf of the people here who support them so strongly. I've always given Mr. Tweed the benefit of the doubt. He is the MP for a large area and can't be everywhere at once. CKX TV is (was) a local news station that employed local people and covered local news, sports, weather, events, and also carried local advertising - an important part of the fabric of the entire region. This just goes to show that when it really counts, Merv Tweed, the man with the most powerful voice in our area and the man who we elect to represent us, is nowhere to be found. Thank you Mr. Tweed for absolutely nothing !!  
 
Learn to speak up Merv, it's your job ! Even if things would have turned out the same, at least we would have known that you actually payed attention. I hope you liked the vote you got from me during the last election because you won't be getting it again.
