road rage
10/8/2009 at 12:20 PM
Normally I wouldn't weigh in on this subject, but, I used to have really bad road rage: I'm a professional driver and typically drive about 2000k per week. over the years I've realised that we all make mistakes out there and the key is to first come to grips with that truth: speed causes a lot of problems...my suggestion to city council and police is 30kmh in residential and school zones,40kmh on streets such as richmond, 18th, 1st, victoria: kemnay rd should be 90kmh(too narrow, too many curves and blind spots)we all know there is an allowance...when it says 50, ppl will go 60-65, this is too fast for several reasons...
one...faster means less time to make good decisions
two...we have an ever increasing pop of seniors that drive(they have just as much right as others to be on the road)
three...you just don't know when a child is going to make a break for it(in carberry, last week, two little girls broke away from their mom...I was going about 20kmh, any faster and I would have flattened them...and again I had occasion to thank God...and respect a slower pace.)
four...the faster you hit the potholes and imperfections on our roads the worse they get(I would suggest we could save millions over time and have nicer roads as a result.)
And finally, my experience has been that by going slower, following a safe distance, admit when I make a mistake, forgive the person that cuts me off and realise that its not just me and my mission out there, I actually get more accomplished in the same time at a lower stress level.
Thanks all...and slow down, please!!!
