One last comment

I think I should be adding one last comment to sum up my point in starting the topic of "I am appalled" for discussion.
Yes I am concern of the change in role our forces have taken on in Afghanistan and I do understand the change in enemy that our troops are dealing with over there. However what concerns me even more is the location and history of where this is all taking place.
Unless my memory fails me. Does not history teach us. That the area we term as Afghanistan is certainly not a place anyone should have any triumphant military aspirations about. Other aspirations perhaps, but definitely not military ones. In the history of mankind there has never been a military reseegm that has had a conquest in the location.
My fear is that if we don't learn anything from history we are doomed to repeat it. Thus I think this is something even NATO should not be so predisposed to consider in their purpose over there.
And no, Canadian troops should never be considered not capable of being up for what ever job they are called upon to perform as a member of NATO. However, being a member of that alliance Canada should also be doing alot more than just going along with the status quo in regards to the situation over there. The very worst way to fight terrorism is to play their game of look and see how despicable we can be. And this seems to be a part we are playing over there.
Yes Canadian troops will be out of Afghanistan in 2011 and as far as Canada goes their fighting over there will stop, but I also sadly believe the injustice over there will not.
If we are the Nation that does like to stand back while such injustice is taking place, like alot of us believe we are. What are we as Canadian going to do about it.
Wouldn't it be a shock if we ended up doing what we should have considered doing in the first place. Concentrated our efforts to rebuild what war and terrorism en-devours to destroy.
